Track Day with Stillen Track Cooler

I had my first track day with the Stillen Track Oil Cooler (My third track day total). To sum it up, oil temperature was not even an issue.

I was at the Summit Point main circuit on Saturday at about 75 degrees with the occasional downpour. Most of my sessions were in heavy rain but the one I had in the dry my oil temps never went above 220 degrees. Keep in mind that I am still a novice and the wet track required careful use of the throttle.

I really love this car more than ever. With the traction control on in the rain it was really was confidence inspiring. On my third session I got a point by from a Porsche GT3 and multiple Aston Martins (there was a Aston Club in attendance). :driving:

In fact , the only car I had to point by was a SLR McLaren. Yes...a SLR McLaren...

Good to hear. My 1st track day in the 370Z is next Saturday. I had the Stillen "Race" oil cooler installed 1 week ago in the hopes that oil temps would not be an issue.

Awesome. Weather has been GREAT last few days. averaging 60s-70s. You should've went today. It's absolutely beautiful out 60s with dry weather. Any track videos or pics?

glad it worked for you! I have been seeing about 230 with my Modshack oil cooler. I just did Road Atlanta this weekend myself. (55 degrees but in advanced with R compounds)

I had a track day yesterday. It actually was pretty awesome...bitter cold and wet in the morning which made me focus on lines, smoothness and control. By the afternoon, the sun came out, it warmed up, and the track dried. Then it was balls to the wall speed all the way around. The instructors called it a perfect day given the vast learning opportunities and the chance to finish with really hot laps.

Here's my favorite shot from the day. For a lap or two, I thought I could actually stay ahead of him. Then he got close, I pointed him by, and VOOOSH...he was gone :). Looks like my Z can't hang with the big dog. His GTR was modded though, not that it really made a difference in the end result for me.

Sorry, no pictures. The track day photographer chose not to come because of the rain.

I wish I had pictures of the SLR McLaren. When the car is in motion the paint on the side "gills" is almost holographic.

Did you use SS lines or the Aeroquip ones?

Here is a vid from Saturday. I was riding along in my instructors S2000 and he was chasing down the SLR McLaren. Watch as we turn onto the front straight and the SLR rockets away.

At 2:55 my instructors ABS fails and we almost rear end a Boxter. You can hear me yell "good save"!

Good times!

Sorry that it's not in the 370Z. But the SLR is just amazing. Although the lowly Honda eventually catches and passes the Mercedes super car.
