Boost Controller **** the Bed

So 3/4 the way through our 3000+ mile road trip to Vegas to get married and my EVC 6 boost controller **** the bed and it stopped controlling boost (it actually failed in a way that kept the waste gates closed).

I ended up just clamping off the line coming out of the stepper and ran on spring pressure the rest of the way home. Anyways now I am looking for a new regulator for it. I would rather keep the same unit since its all wired in and I do like it. Does anyone know of any HKS dealers that have replacement parts for these things?

Thanks

Mitch

Congrats man!!

Congrats! Not sure what a regulator is. There is a controller and a solenoid in every EBC. The solenoid is cheap and plenty on ebay. You should remove the solenoid and test it first.

Sorry hear man

But that is a good looking couple with a couple of good looking cars  Congrats on the nuptials :tiphat:

Thanks man.

Just spoke to HKS Europe and apparently there is no such thing as being able to purchase replacement parts?!?

So I spent 600+ on a boost controller that lasted one year and now I have to rip it out (which is a total pita) to run something else?

Ugh

Im probably not calling it by its name. Its the part that has the 3 ports and regulates the boost to the wastegates.

You mean the solenoid? Sorry to hear that. I'm looking around and might settle for TurboSmart.

Mitco39 06-11-2015 10:48 AM

Yeah the solenoid, spoke to an HKS dealer here in alberta of all places and he said you cannot get just the parts for it. Going to email HKS directly in japan and see if they can do anything for me. If that fails then I guess I am tearing it out.

It sucks because I really did like the unit, it worked great.

Mitco39 06-11-2015 11:36 AM

So the HKS dealer I called suggested I go with the EVC S unit instead. Anyone like that one? How about one that is not HKS? Im a little irked at how hard it is to deal with companies based out of Japan. I dont think I would have this issue if I had a euro car with a euro company making parts.

Looking at ~600 to order a full new EVC 45003-AK012 unit..... Guess I would be taking a gamble if it lasts any longer than the first because warranty and replacement parts is not a thing HKS does.

First, Congrats!

Look at the new Innovate Motorsports SCG-1. I just installed one in ,my car, but I haven't had time to play with it. Besides that, Fast Intentions swears by Turbo Smart, and there is the GFB one.

That's very unfortunate in regards to support. From the TurboSmart site there are links to manuals and spare parts! I was reading the manual for e-Boost, and it accepts a square wave type RPM signal for boost mapping. It also has a couple of output pins you can program to trigger an LED or drive a small aux accessory like water spray.

Plus, I recently sent my BOVs to have it serviced since I didn't have the proper tools. It's $25 + $15 to get it shipped back to you. Not bad at all.

I forgot about that one, but I do remember seeing it when it came out. Going to go take a look at it now. Thanks a bunch!

does it not have a warranty period or anything?

Nope, when I asked one of the HKS dealers they pretty much said no warranty is implied in the sale. Now im sure if you bought through a good dealer they would work for you, but the general feeling I got is if you purchase HKS your taking a chance with it

HA! You should've seen what I've been doing with the Z the past month! I even made a thread about it. It's running again, but I'm so OCD with PCV hoses and breathers building up oil. Just 25 miles, and I'm going nuts with oil from the hoses. This weekend I'm putting in a couple of catch cans for the PCV hoses, and then look into getting a small air oil separator for the breather hoses. The one night I lifted the intake manifold to see a bunch of oil dripping from it was enough to drive me crazy.

Plus, I've got an oil cooler fan ordered. I might as well get as much done as I can while the bumper is off. I can't fully enjoy my car until I get this stuff done.
