Tranny swap/replacement

So my gears are starting to grind in 5th and 6th. Because I bought it used I have no warranty and Nissan is billing me over $5k for replacement. Which I have to do anyway but saving some money would be great.

Gonna grab a transmission from Z1 because they have the most reliable sources I have came across so does anyone have a estimation of how much this would cost to do a swap? And a good place in or near Chicago?

P.S may get a sport transmission with synchrorev if anyone's done that before too

Thanks

From my understanding, the transmission is the same between the sport and the base, it's some additional sensors that are the difference. There's more to the system than that. I think you would be the first to retrofit SRM if you manage to pull it off.

I can't imagine it costing you more than 5-10 hours of labor for the swap.

Yeah so far no one has done it. I'm gonna go through with it. Yeah from what I'm reading if you buy the sport with the sensors in it which Z1 has you would just need the ECU, gauge clusters and rev button...I think

SRM rocks! well worth the effort if you can pull it off. The button is near the shifter you might need a new "shifter base?" (I'm not sure what its called) Does your shifter base/trim have a spot for a SRM button?

Also there is a little window next to where my gear indicator is on the speedometer. When I engage SRM it lights up with a little "s" (ie 6- or 6s) does your speedo have that little window??? I'll run to my car and post pics of what I mean in a minute.

There is just a blank button in the base models. You just have to get the button itself and hook it up.

As for the S-mode window next to the gear indicator, the base model does not have that window. That would be why you need a new gauge cluster, as he mentions.

Just a blank button on the base. I will need a new and yes I need gauge clusters! Thanks for the pics! It helps!!!

Did anyone ever successfully retrofit the SRM feature? I have the correct instrument cluster, an ECU that comes from a car with SRM, a brand new 6MT with the SRM sensor plug, S-mode button, and the SRM equipped engine harness. Most of the parts are already on the car, but just want to make sure if I need anything else before swapping the engine harness and ECU. Thanks in advance.

Wiring diagrams, connector pin-outs, wire colors, etc are in the FSM (link in my sig). Probably the best source of info you're going to find for your project.
