It probably depends on your relationship with your dealer. At least I have some level of assurance that my warranty is safe.

I am not sure about the Mocal thermo sandwich plate. It opens up at 180 deg F. That is not hot enough to boil off any moisture in the oil assuming I cant get the temp up to 212 with that setup. A Canton thermostat is set to open at 220 deg F.

Dont know if it makes any difference cause I work there, but my dealer in Gresham,Oregon installs & keeps the warranty.

some dealers don't have a reliable mechanic to do the job
