Top speed??

Anyone know what the governor is set to for a 2009 370z touring with a sports package. My car is stock besides G3's I hit 160mph gauge was covering 160 for you skeptics saying are you sure.

edconline 02-04-2015 06:42 PM

1) Only GPS speed readings mean anything, the faster you go the more inaccurate the speedo is.

2) I'm not sure if the car does more than 112km/h. The max speed limit here is 110km/h but once I went over by two by mistake.

DEpointfive0 02-04-2015 06:43 PM

The limiter on mine is 155

The speed limiter is not based on speedometer needle position, it is based on the reading from the (very accurate) rear axle speed sensors. The only variable is tire rolling diameter. If the rear tire diameter is correct, regardless of speedometer needle indication, the speed limiter will engage at the proper preset speed with very little error.

What that speed is? Somewhere between 155-160. My speedometer needle indicated about 158 or 159mph when the car would stop accelerating (back when I still had the speed limiter active). I cant remember what the original setting in the ECU was before I changed it.

Rusty 02-04-2015 10:04 PM

When I had my uprev tune done. RT Tuning reset it from 155 to 199. That's what Vince told me.

phunk 02-04-2015 10:42 PM

155 does sound right to me. That would mean my needle was off by 3-4mph at that speed.

BGTV8 02-04-2015 10:44 PM

Which is 250kph ................

Top speed??

I hit 162 and then backed off on my 2014 (speedo reading)

:bowrofl:

Kaldaien 02-05-2015 02:14 PM

If you're doing 160 you should probably have a radar detector :p The new ones have GPS built-in and will read your speed much more precisely than the analog speedometer especially if you burnout the tires.

radar detectors are a very nice piece of equipment to have. :tiphat:

Leave them bikes alone. The 600 cc ones will even embarrass you.

Agreed. I had a Ducati 1299 roll up next to me and wanted to play. Not gonna lie it was a lot of fun.

wyso 02-05-2015 08:50 PM

1299?

You mean a 1199? The 1299 was just announced. Panigale I assume>

Right on. Back in 1993 I had a CBR900RR tuned to 120 whp. Rider and bike weighed in at about 650lbs, 5.5 lbs/hp. Yes it was quick, 0-100 in about 6 seconds. Passing on 2 lane roads, no problem. The new version of that bike now has about 150whp. An amazing thrill to ride and hard to beat in a 370z.

But I like my z better. It is a nice compromise of speed, handling and safety for a daily driver.

According to Progressive Snapshot, mine tops out at 155 MPH. I just love the idea that somebody's going to look at my data  and they're not allowed to cancel my policy based on the data :roflpuke2:

yes 1199. I was typing fast and hit the 2.

the new 1299's are sexy though :yum:

but I can never own a bike. I would be dead in <3 months after purchase.

( Click to show/hide )

How do they track this, with an app on your phone?

Mythic 02-06-2015 07:46 AM

Both my Nismos (my 09 and my 10) bone stock the speedo read 155mph when they stopped accelerating.

I have an 08 Kawasaki ZX10R, dyno'd 178 at the rear wheel. and weighs around 500lb. I dont know of a car that will hand with it over 100mph, these things SCREAM

I enjoy how this thread is like

"The stupid forum won't let me talk about how these other cars wanted to "play" with me, so I'll just say I went 190mph but I won't tell the story"

You guys are idiots. Don't drive like an asshat. If you want to do this, go to a landspeed race (I have a few buddies going to an ECTA event pretty soon), disconnect the VSS, and tape up the front of your car to go fast.

:gtfo2:

why would I pay over $200 plus a membership fee to floor it for a mile?

if i'm spending that much i'll go do a track day.

Same here, I don't do it. I do HPDE and soon Lemons/Chump once my E30 is together.

At the same time $200 to floor it for a mile is much better than flooring it on the interstate, wrecking your car, killing people, loosing your license and hopefully going to jail for a good long time.

there's a difference between flooring it in traffic and waiting for optimal conditions. just because one might use their car's potential outside of a race track doesn't mean every single one does so irresponsibly.

i get what you're saying and i agree. but just relax about it.

last time i spoke about safety concerns on some awful stance build i got banned. gotta watch out about safety concerns around here lol

There's a device that plugs into the OBD-II port on the car. It measures the speed every few ms and detects changes in it. They only care about quick deceleration (> 7mph/s), which they call "had braking" (which is silly, because you can do that with 1 bad downshift). But the data recorded includes your speed, they just aren't allowed to do anything with that :p

As for how they get the data, Progressive has a contract with AT&T and the device sends its data log wirelessly every time you start your car.

All stance builds are awful, it goes without saying

And I agree, if I am exploring the limits of my car outside of a track, I ensure the only person that is possibly at risk is me. Nothing wrong with that IMO.

Elmo370z 02-07-2015 01:12 AM

No doubt! They're all ridiculously fast. I saw 176 on my R6 now I ride a modded '04 GSXR 1000 and it tries to rip my arms off every time I crank the throttle.
