Soooooo when can we start sending the payments ?

Jimbo370 04-06-2014 10:13 PM

I bought one

I am letting you all know that I am happy with mine so far. The shifting is faster and smoother but still having problems in 5th and 6th. Maybe due to my shifter in the old 1990 300zx. You might want to pick out a knob for it. My mechanic spent 30 mins trying to not ruin the OEM shifter top but had to glue it back together. He also said instructions in the box to label parts would give insight to the install. The pics he found on the internet didn't help much. The seller was friendly and part took 4 days from Houston-jacksonville. 3 out of 4 for Z excellence

What do you mean problems with 5th and 6th gear?....please elaborate!....because like I stated before I had bought a shifter that's looks the just like this one and I couldn't get it in reverse....it did make a huge difference in the throw but I couldn't get in reverse because the shifter wouldn't push down enough to engage reverse here's the link for that shifter

I'd also like to know as well, although someone earlier within this thread had said they are using the shift kit and have no issues.

shift problem

It might just be me since I am not use to 6 gears. The mechanic had a problem in the beginning with reverse not pushing down and he drives a dodge charger. he took it for a test drive and seemed to find the gears. I just seem to have a lot of play area to the right of 5th and 6th so I am hunting but there is no gears that far over. The plate may have something to do with it. Nothing to worry about it is a good shifter.

richc2jeter 04-07-2014 10:04 AM

Who else is confused and curious ?

:ugh2:

NonStopTuning 04-07-2014 03:05 PM

We've covered this several times, and it has been photographed and documented in the DIY guide that was posted. The RED PLATE that is included with the NST shifter needs to be installed FACE DOWN. If this plate is not installed in the correct way (it only fits two ways) then reverse and the outer gears will be an issue.

When installed correctly (face down / flat side up) as seen in this photo, everything is 100% good to go.

Install correctly and :driving:

Just to chip back in.. i have now put 500 miles on the car with this installed and it performs just as expected. Shifting is smooth and quick and i have no hiccups.

The hangup in 5th gear that i experienced briefly was when i forced the shifter over and sideways hard then up instead of pushing it up and over like you would during normal driving. I plan to hit the nurburgringn on the 8th of May with this on and will see how it performs during a track event. For the money this cant be beat!
