Throttle body cleaning due to idling issues after a stop.

Has anyone ever cleaned the electronic throttle bodies on the 370z?? I've been searching online and there are different ways of cleaning it but you have to be careful when you clean the butterfly. Some say disconnect the wiring harness take out the throttle body and just spray the butterfly with throttle body cleaner and carefully wiping around without moving it. Some say you can safely move it but you'll have to do a open and close electronic relearning procedure. Others have damaged them. Whats the best safe way to clean them?

Pay someone who has done it before. That's my advice. I have had issue after issue because of how sensitive those damn things are. And be careful of those manual relearns they can cause problems too like setting your idle too low. Happened to me and I still haven't corrected everything yet.been a total pain in the ***

Sorry to hear about your experience.

I personally have done mine, and I didn't encounter any issue albeit Im pretty experienced around motors.

I took the lazy and less of a problem way to clean them of course. :icon17:

I just placed an old towel below the tb and cleaned the front unbolted them, And cleaned the back re-bolted them back up.

Fired it up with no idle issues. :ugh2:

So you didn't disconnect the wire harness nor the battery? Did you see any improvements.

Did you budge the butterfly to clean better?

Yes, I moved it open to clean thru both sides

But like anything you just need to be careful especially when re-bolting them since you're dealing with plastic and NOT aluminum so don't crank on them to bolt them on.

I cant remember what the torque specs are for the hex bolts.

I heard that if you budge the butterfly while its connected you can damage the electronic motor within. See, I'm
Seeing mixed results. Some had luck and nothing happens some had issues after cleaning

Dealer charges $40, seeing its something that i might easily mess up and because its so cheap, i have them do it. Plus, its documented that i went to the dealer and that they did their BS 20 something point inspection. everything else i try and do it myself

If you have a low/shaky idle or one that is hunting (i.e., intermittently high and low), rather than mess with the TB, I'd search for a vacuum leak first.

Pick up some carburetor cleaner and spray all around the intake tract. If the idle changes, you've found your leak.

It may also be worthwhile to check your air filters (if when held up, no light passes through, replace) and clean the MAF's (pick up some CRC MAF cleaner spray).

Good luck!
