HELP - opening tail lights

okay i tried the search feature and didnt yield any results.
i got water in my tail light and it caused the circuit board inside to short out. i was wondering if anyone has ever opened the tails for any reason, and how to go about it. my tails were professionally painted and cleared and are blacked out, so i want to try and replace the board inside from another broken tail light. any and all info would be great thanks.. :ughdance::yum:

Can you post pics of your tail light? and did the person who painted it say anything about a warranty? Sounds like he didnt seal them right....

No, you can't open them, unless with a hot knife

Sorry, you're SOL

they were never opened to be painted, so it wasnt a matter of the resealing, at least i dont think. they were painted prior to my purchase of the car, but these are amazing quality. sucks that water ruined the board smh... pics of my car are in my album if u wanna look :tiphat:

Oh boy, and I thought this would only happen on my huyndai, the z too?

I think for the tail lights you're going to have to do some surgery to open them up, with a dremel. Let me find a vid later showing how it is done to open the gc tail lights, different cars but should give you an idea how to do.

Here is the thread with instructions and video guys. I must warn you to do this only if you don't mind the risk of hacking the tail lights, it takes a lot of prctice and you must have very steady hand and great focus to keep your cuts precise. The guy in the vid is Chris, he is a master at light modding, and has built some serious head lights and tail lights for various cars, even many GT-r owners here in socal go to him for light projects, you can check out his website for more vids and pics.

To be honest, the z tail lights are much more expensive and harder to source a used one for cheap if you mess up, IMO, Op you're better off selling the old ones to offset the cost of your new tails.

Nice. I searched this as well and found only a couple threads with no real meat on the bone.

Good enough reason to resurrect this post: https://flickr.com/photos/46668569@N...57650738962291
