DIY: Visor LED Swap Install

First off, I tried to follow this original DIY:

http://www.the370z.com/diy-section-d...tml#post177184

However, he made it seem easier said than done, so I am providing some things from my own experience and hopefully this will help others as well.

Difficulty level - 2
Time needed - Less than 10-15 minutes or more, YMMV.
Tools needed - LEDs, screwdriver with a pick like tip

First things first, work at your own risk! I'm not responsible if you scratch, chip, or break anything while you do this. When working with electrical things within the car, it is recommended to disconnect your battery!!

For the LEDs, I ordered them from iJDMToy. These are the ones I purchased:
iJDMTOY 3-SMD 6641 LED Vanity Light Bulbs For Car Sun Visor Lamps

Here's how they look like:

For the tools, I used this following one from Snap-On. You would need to use something like this to pop open the cover.

To pop open the cover, you can refer to the owner's manual, or just stick it in one corner and slowly work around the edges until it pops out.

OEM Bulb:

To take out the bulb, I used that same screwdriver and just popped it out.

Now, just take your new LED one and pop it in. If it doesn't light up right away, switch it around and it will light up.

Now just slowly, SLOWLY put the cover back on. To put the cover back on, I had to use a small flat head screwdriver to push the bottom tabs of the cover back in. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do this very carefully. I cannot stress this enough. If you rush it, this will happen to you:

Yep, a full crack down the middle. A nice $134.00 replacement part.

Thanks for the write up. I have the bulbs already but now your crack has me worried. This is exactly what is bound to happen to me.

I did mine right after I bought my Z...But, do we really need a DIY for this??

I'm sure there's a way for it not to crack, but I seriously tried everything I could think of, and the only way for me to get the cover back on was to slowly push it back in.

No, but do we really need a DIY for anything? Isn't most things, unbolt, remove old item, add in new item, bolt up?

Just trying to be somewhat helpful and point out some issues that someone might have when deciding to do this.

Nope, you'd have to return them for exchange. How'd you order the wrong ones? I have a direct link in the first post of this thread lol...unless you ordered before hand and not from here.

Here's an underside picture of the plastic cover so you can see the bottom tabs. I used a dive knife (because they have a flat, dull, tip) to push in the tabs. It really is a war of patience.Attachment 66990

And also, I don't know if anyone else has had trouble with these bulbs, but their quality control seems to be pretty lacking. I bought two sets of them from ijdmtoys not realizing they ship in packs of two, but I'm glad I did, as 2 of the four didn't work, including this obviously damaged one in the picture.Attachment 66991

What was the screw driver for?

At first, I had tried to use a screwdriver to pop open the plastic. However, after trying, it wouldn't fit so I had to end up using the pick tip one instead.

Sorry about that! Edited first post.

Thanks for the pics!

Sorry to hear about the issue with the LEDs :( I didn't have an issue with the ones I received from there.

Hope you were able to return them for a refund or something. Yeah, I think their description says it's for a pair of LEDs. Good thing you ordered double!

So I can get the cover off easy enough, plug it in and im flipping blinded its so bright! ouch but I cant get the cover to go back on. I don't know about getting them on easy or needing to move the lights up or down to make it go on easier. Im scared to break that plastic cover! Any tips?

Ijdmtoys usually sells pretty cheap stuff, I usually use either superbrightleds.com or vleds.com for quality lighting. I've ordered from ijdmtoys before and gotten bulbs that were DOA and some others that died not to long after.
