Radiator Grille Mesh to Protect Aircon Condenser

Some guys on the forum had aircon condenser punctures. Has anyone installed some form of protectection such as grille mesh (or perhaps some good quality gutter guard) behind the factory grille to prevent gravel and stones from puncturing the aircon condenser? Are there vendors out there that have pre-cut pieces for the factory bumper?

If you have a Nismo. You can get the Nissan Motorsport grill guard for $435. Mine just came in. Ordered the damn thing back in June. Haven't had a chance yet to install it.

Do you have pics or a link?

Does it happen often enough to worry about? I'm sure it happens, but I seldom hear a report. I've been driving for over 40 years and never had a condenser puncture.

I'm just getting tired of removing chucks of rubber, leaves, dead birds off of the coolers and radiator, and watching my temp gauges going up.

ah. Most of my driving is in-town and I don't have a big problem with trash in the radiator, but I can see where it could be a problem for others. Question withdrawn, you honor. :)

Hey SouthArk, sorry, just wanted to add that if you do track your car and the driver ahead goes into a gravel trap, he/she could be flinging gravel into your condenser, radiator or oil cooler at a very high speed. For me, its really to avoid granite/gravel falling off dump trucks and hitting my car on the freeways. Even if the chips don't result in a puncture, they distort the cooling fins and reduce the cooling efficiency. On the second day I got this car, a tiny stone from the opposite side of the freeway flew over and chipped my windscreen. Wouldn't want that in my radiator.

Car Grille Installation Video

Guys, here's a youtube video on how to install your own radiator grille. Its not a Z but I guess once you get the bumper off, it should be quite straight forward. They sell grilles too.

Hey Rusty,
Any luck on that link?

Thanks!

Try this:
1) Delete the post that I am replying to
2) Edit the first video post so that you have:

where you want the video embedded (you only need the "code" after the "v=" in the URL, not the complete URL)

Thank you for teaching me something new!

Ok, I just installed my mesh grill. You can get it from Nissan MotorSports. 888-833-3225. Part number 62851-RTZ40. List is $438.89. Took 6 months for mine to come in. Here is a couple of pictures.

Baer383 12-25-2012 09:53 AM

It sounded allot better than it looks, maybe if it was black it may look OK but my Nismo isn't feeling it.
The brake ducts however look good.

To each their own,I wouldn't do that to mine and I have a GTM intercooler there not a a/c condenser.

SouthArk370Z 12-25-2012 12:02 PM

I wasn't really recommending for or against the mod. Just pointing out that if not being black was your only concern you might want to take another look at the after pic. ;)

I like the look, but my DD runs pretty hot in the Summer and I don't have a big problem with trash in the radiator (just the occasional leaf or bug). I'd hate to introduce even the slightest restriction just for looks. :driving:

I don't have that problem with stuff in my bumper but if I did I would take the bumper off and fasten it from the back to keep it recessed.

Rusty 12-25-2012 12:12 PM

Any of you guys ever got showered by track debris. Then you know why.

SouthArk370Z 12-25-2012 12:24 PM

I understand that it is a necessity for some ppl and, if I were going to install one, I'd give this particular grille consideration (probably with Baer's recessed mod). I'm not trying to discourage anyone from installing a grille, it's just not for me.

Ref: Pic 2... It looks like someone pulled you out from under the front of the car and you're in a pool of dry blood and missing your left leg LOL!!! :rofl2:

But seriously, thanks for sharing. Hmmm, $439 is a little more than what I was hoping to pay. I'm gonna try a cheaper method. ;)

Ah, you're bike crazy too... Many years ago, I crashed an RGV250 on the very first day I got it while doing a u-turn. When you switch from a 4 stroke to a 2 stroke, you just don't expect to lose all that low-end torque. And when you come out from a slow u-turn and you're not in the powerband, bad things happen. It was bye bye Lucky Strike livery on Day 1 LOL!!!
