Ok adding to this thread a year later. I pried gently around the top with a razor to start cutting into the glued surface. Then gently kept going around until the lens popped off. I put frog tape around the lens to protect it from scratching it.
http://i668.photobucket.com/albums/v...ichtoneHDR.jpg Then I drilled a 13/32 hole onto the housing. http://i668.photobucket.com/albums/v...ichtoneHDR.jpg Next step is to insert a 3 watt eagle eye led light that I got from amazon and secured with the supplied nut. http://i668.photobucket.com/albums/v...ichtoneHDR.jpghttp://i668.photobucket.com/albums/v...ichtoneHDR.jpg final result was this...http://i668.photobucket.com/albums/v...ichtoneHDR.jpg. So there is definitely more brightness towards the upper corner so tomorrow in going to spray paint this chrome to add reflection.http://i668.photobucket.com/albums/v...ichtoneHDR.jpg. This is as far as I got tonight. But the plan is to insert another led in there and run wires, one up to the tail lights and one to the brake light. Then hey it all sealed up. Final mod will run less than 15$. More info to come later. |
Definitely doing this soon!

I tapped into the license plate light and the bulb is super bright one the fog light and hot, I hooked it up in parallel too. It's not supposed to be that bright is it?

Did mine this weekend and followed JARblue's method and I LOVE it.
Wiring was super easy, I tapped into the license plate light. Only part I didn't like was popping the lens off, I cracked the corner but super glued it. |
I need to do this on mine..looks pretty cool..

Yeah, you just have to go slow with the lens. IIRC, I just used a flat head screwdriver to pry it off. It will make some evil noises as you go along, but the key is to not rush it. |
