Here's another way to get this mod done easily. http://www.the370z.com/diy-section-d...lder-eyes.html

Hello all,

I really feel stupid right now since everyone seemed to finish this easily.

Everything went fine, even until pulling out the plug from the BCM. But then the male T connector is much smaller then the plug I took out ! It is square ! No way it fits there ! And even less the female part that has to fit In the taken out plug...

Is there an adaptator to plug on the wires before plugging them in ? I ordered them in Germany since I am in France and... I don't understand... I'm on the BCM on the passenger side and the very well done tutorial leaves no doubt about the harness to unplug. I'm confused... Now I have unilluminated kick plates ! :-)

Anyone has an idea ?

Cilwang 04-14-2012 04:25 PM

In the end I cut the wires and made a bridge. It works now, even is the kickplates light are always on... I guess it's LEDs so it shouldn't eat to much electricity but I really hope it won't suck my battery dry !

eastwest2300 05-25-2012 09:36 PM

I'd definitely like to see a video of this install, Im gonna order mine this week.

VVEL 07-18-2012 01:42 PM

Great walk through will make the install of my plates 100% easier

Joe Go 07-30-2012 07:58 PM

Installed mine today. Very easy job. Reading the instructions made the job harder, then in actuality.:driving:

Post pictures. The lights should turn on when the doors are open and turn off when they are closed. The lights will also shut off after the doors have been open for a while.

Im going to do this install on two cars. I have searched around and only see one version of the kickplates (black plastic and brushed aluminum)

Does anyone know of any other style options like carbon fiber or solid black?

Thanks!

eastwest2300 08-21-2012 02:24 AM

Has anyone posted up a video of this mod yet?

eastwest2300 09-01-2012 02:55 AM

I bought my kick panels yesterday..should be doing the install very soon.

happytheman 09-01-2012 10:29 AM

I hope so, looking at the DIY, it looks pretty complex, I hope its not.

happytheman 09-02-2012 12:05 AM

Nah, the hardest bit was getting the harness out of the BCM. I recommend a pair needle nose pliers.

eastwest2300 09-06-2012 09:13 PM

I got mine installed today.. it looks great. Thanks for the write up, it helped out a lot!

dansracing 09-13-2012 09:19 PM

The most confusing part of the diy (photos) is the BCM work and the fear it brings to anyone not wanting to get into the car's wiring. All of that fear goes away when you look at the harness that comes with the lighted kick plates and then it all makes sense.
It is basically an extension of what you un plug. In other words like unscrewing a pipe and lengthening it by screwing in a nipple and re attaching what you originally un screwed except its a plug.

The second problem that most people have is un plugging the BCM initially. If you just study the harness that comes with the lighted kick plates you will know exactly how and where to press on the one you need to remove to un lock it and get it out. It's a freaky little lock but if you look the one over that comes with the new plates I think it will make getting the original out much easier.

Other than that is all about cleanly running wire and getting the panels on and off without breaking anything.

Awesome DIY and once you open up your new plates and look at the harness, its a no brainer.

How'd it go for you man? Easy peasy, right?

dansracing 09-14-2012 10:24 AM

Just completed mine in less than an hour! Great DIY and information, thanks.

pfdaxe 09-14-2012 11:23 AM

I'll be doing mine within a couple of weeks. Also I'll be doing the LED swap to white LEDs and adding some matching footwell lights. This will match my dome LEDs.

bdub561 09-25-2012 05:39 PM

Good DIY! Done in less than an hour!

It went well, Im glad I bought them, and I totally like seeing them at night. Very classy.

eastwest2300 09-27-2012 02:13 AM

I just wish they werent $150, they're a little overpriced...but still very sharp looking.

TheGreatOne 10-27-2012 11:39 PM

I still need to get a set of these...I also don't like messing with wiring, prefer engine stuff...but DIY looks straight forward!

sparky 12-22-2012 03:28 PM

Just finished installing these.
Yes they are nicer than stock.
Yes they look great in the dark.
Yup just push up the little release in the middle of the BCM connector and it will pop right out.
No they are not worth the price! :icon17:

Younggun 12-28-2012 09:13 AM

Anyone have a pinout diagram of the T-harness that is included with the illuminated kick plates?

Silly Rabbit 04-05-2014 02:09 PM

I installed a set today and the driver side front clip doesn't clip, it slides in and out of the hole. I resorted to putting a piece of gorilla tape on the end to keep it down. Any better suggestions?

lgarcia 08-15-2014 10:03 PM

I just received my kick plates today. I'll try this DYI this weekend!

lgarcia 08-16-2014 09:00 PM

I installed my kick plates today using this DIY, thanks for the pics!!!
Like everyone said once you take the panels apart it is pretty straight forward.
The small screw driver for the bcm plug made it easy. Thanks fir this DIY, this mod is a must!!
Took me two hours, going slow and double checking everything. A good flashlight helps the process... A few beers too...

Cheers!

zipkicker 09-16-2014 01:38 AM

I got mine installed today too - piece of cake (and I'm chronically challenged at these sorts of things). Thanks for the write up!

How and where did you guys hide the wire that connects the LED light from the kick plate to the rest of the connection?

Nevermind I figured it out. I had to put it under the weather strip, that was dumb.

lgarcia 10-04-2014 03:56 PM

Exactly, glad you figured it out, I was about to take a pic of mine...

Skyscraper 10-07-2014 12:10 PM

I'm getting confused, my '09 Touring did not come with the illuminated versions of the sill plates yet I've seen some places that have said ALL the touring models came with them. Can anyone point me to an answer here?

madaz 10-16-2014 12:30 AM

I have an 09 Touring and as you can see I had to install the kickplates myself so there's your answer.

Corsairprime 01-19-2015 08:19 AM

Just finished installing this kit yesterday on my 14 Nismo Z. Pretty easy install. fishing the wiring from right to left was the only real challenge. Great results. Look good at night. 2 thumbs up on the install write-up.
