CA Front License Plate Alternative

1 Attachment(s)
Like many of you, I hate having a front license plate. Especially with our HOT front end. It's like throwing braces on a supermodel.

However, I live in the middle of Los Angeles and park on the streets several times a week when the parking a**holes are on the prowl and can't afford several parking tickets a month.

Hating the way the factory front plate bracket looked, I had the gutsy idea of cutting into the plastic under the bumper with an exacto and sliding the plate a few inches into the bumper to fit the opening. Came out looking clean (PHEW!).

hopefully that's not blocking up too much of the grille

I have been thinking of putting the front plate at the same location but have not done it yet - mine does not have the front plate yet.
I wait until I get a ticket then will do similar installation like yours.

I'll definitely be keeping my eye on the temp on hot days. Although, I did the same thing on the 350 and it never overheated.

hope you have a fan behind the plate, cuz i can almost guarantee your car will overheat, especially the oil temps.

No offense but it looks somewhat like a rabbit tooth. :D

Another idea that I used on my brother's car is:

- cut the plate in half so that you only see the numbers that way it doesn't block as much of the radiator. Just make sure the cut is hidden away so you can't see it.

- On my other car, I've gotten tickets before for not having a front license plate. Each time I would temporarily fix it by using the bracket with double sided tape and put only the head of the screw superglued to the frame so you can't tell. This would get signed off by the police and is easy to remove without having holes in your bumper.

And there's the Stillen Front License Plate Bracket. Pricey, but works great (and does not seem to restrict air flow).

I haven't noticed any issues (and hopefully won't).
