So how ever I slice it, I did end up draining less than 5 and 1/8th. Not sure if thats normal...
Totaly normal. Don't forget the oil filter takes up oil as well. Sounds like you didn't burn a drop if you put in 5 1/8 and got 5ish out if you include what the filter would take. Even if you burnt 1/8th that's nothing between oil changes....

It still blows my mind how TINY the filter on our cars are.... even the "big" Purolator or Wix seem so small....

Well I burnt more than 1/8th, because we put in 5 full quarts + 1/8th from the 6th bottle. . . and while disposing, one big 5 quart bottle wasn't even full to the 5 quart level. So the 1/8th was gone PLUS some of the 5 quarts were gone.....

I don't beat the car or track it etc. but I did do a lot of long drives pretty much each weekend (200 miles+)

STILL normal?

How far from the 5 quart line? You probably spilled some, left some in the filter, had plenty of residue in the drain pan, and even then maybe burned a little bit. Also, how accurate is this jug? Unless this jug was half full or something you're fine. Just check your dipstick once a week and track it against your mileage.

I just did my first oil change at 2975 miles. I followed AK's DIY and it went great other than the fact that I can't seem to line up where the oil comes out and where it is supposed to go in the drain pan. I made a little mess but I haven't changed my own oil in probably 15 years so I guess I am rusty.
Thanks AK.

Changed my oil on Friday at 1600mi with Redline 5w30, the large purolator filter, filter mag and magnetic drain plug. Everything went great except i swear Nissan torqued down the OE filter to like 140ft/lbsand the 67.3 bolts that need to be removed to take off the splash tray...

i did mine yesterday too at 2999 miles. the oil change was easy, but figuring out the reminder reset was confusing. hahaha. kept holding down the button thinking it was the same as any other car... the owner's manual also sucked in explaining that you just select current mile and hit the top button and let go.

Hey AK,

I noticed you used a copper crushable washer. I also noticed that the magnetic drain plug came with 2 different sized washers in the package. I assume you didn't use those for anything?

Thanks

Just finished my first oil change at 3000 mi. Used my Race Ramps and installed a magnetic drain plug. I've done a lot of oil changes but this thread was very informative and I learned a lot. The oil change went great and there were no surprises thanks to everyone here especially AK...thanks!

I went with Redline oil and the Pure One oil filter. My Z is noticeably quieter and very smooth.
