dainedazz,

Very nice! Can we please see a pic of the backup/rear camera, and where it is installed on the exterior? Also, a pic of it activated on the Pioneer screen? Thanks!

Rep point given.

Can you give us an idea on the cost of all this?

Kenwood Dnx6140 = $800+
Pioneer Rear view cam = $220
Installation = $200

i paid 1G flat though, the guys at the shop was cool with me and was "honored" to work with the z34 lol. they didnt charge me for the installation and dropped the prices for the headunit to 800 and the cam to 200 flat. it was really nice. they did a really good job.

sure thing, i'll post pics of the camera mounted on the exterior and in action on the kenwood screen later today when i get home from work.

the camera is installed on top of the rear license plate by the button where you open the trunk.

I got the AVIC-F90BT and whilst it isn't the fastest thing to boot up I can live with it for all of the features it has.

This unit WILL CHARGE newest Ipod Nanos as well as the Iphone 3G. I know this by testing it myself.

I'll post pics of my install here as the Ipod cable I wanted custom and not just floating in the center armrest console with a hole in it that looks unprofessional. Pics after work tonight.

Why did you go with a Pioneer backup cam? Kenwood makes the CCD-2000. Availability?

This is correct, some systems can still play the iPod to system function but will not charge, usually comes up with an error but will still function and play music. Then their are other systems which will crash the iPod (or iPhone) and cause it to be unstable. Yes I have experience in crashing my, now gone, iPhone with a few systems and having Apple replace them.

Mine works fine

My Avic 900BT charges and works fine with both my iPhone 3G and my new iPod.

Hey, that's what counts. I asked because I've heard about lag and low frame rates from some cams, but nothing so far about the Kenwood cam. Doesn't sound like it matters at all to match manufacturers between the various components.

ortizeg 04-17-2009 02:42 PM

Hey dainedazz,

I noticed you got the Kenwood instead of the Pioneer and you haven't complained about boot up time or steering wheel delays. So, what is your boot up time like? For example, how long does it take for your reverse camera to pop up on the screen from a cold start?

Also, what kind of delays are you getting with the PAC controller to use your steering controls, if you got one. It seems that it's a common complaint that there is an annoying delay no matter which PAC/HU combo you use...

boot up time for the HU is like about 10secs for me. to be honest i havent really paid attention to the boot up time cuz it never bothered me. all i know is that it doesnt take long to boot up from cold start.

about the rear view cam, it automatically pops up on the screen like 1 sec after u throw it into reverse. or u can just hold the "NAV" button for more than 1sec and it goes on. from what i know, u need to wait for the HU to boot in order to use the cam. i havent really started my car and threw it to reverse right away.

i dont use the steering wheel controls. i never used it so i didnt get the PAC controller. i always liked the nob to turn up the volume.

dainedazz 04-17-2009 02:53 PM

i picked the kenwood over the pioneer cuz it had Garmin. for some reason the pioneer nav looked weird to me IMO. pioneer is nice tho ;) like i said, IMO.

A huge factor in bootup time is attached mass storage or iPods. The HU needs to index all the music during bootup. Most people complaining about bootup times have large music libraries (8G+). Do you have anything attached via USB yet?

oh ic. i only use a 4gig nano. it plays right away as soon as the hu boots up. and no i dont really use the usb. i just used it to enter a backround image.

What level of control do you have via the steering wheel controls for the old radio/cdplayer?

Any insight into Eclipse AVN726E unit?
Thanks!

spearfish25 06-03-2009 07:16 PM

Did you have the stock radio or the Bose upgrade prior to the swap? I looked at my Bose unit and it doesn't look like there is a cutout that would fit a navi like yours.

I noticed this when I test drove the touring vs. base models. The stock radio is a double DIN unit that can be removed and easily replaced. The Bose upgrade is integrated into the dashboard ( I think the 1-6 CD buttons are separate, along with some other things) which would make it difficult to remove and/or replace.

My Toyota Avalon has the same type of integrated radio system which makes the swap either impossible or really bad looking (holes/fake buttons where current buttons are).

spearfish25 06-05-2009 12:09 PM

The solution is to order the base model's dash insert which someone priced between $180 and $225. Sheesh.

kosmo09 06-10-2009 09:20 PM

I have base model w/o Bose system. Eclipse AVN726E installed yesterday by myself, and works super!

BillyGoatGag 07-10-2009 02:17 AM

To avoid messing with the wheel controls for the stereo, I was thinking it would be nice to do a mock up of the stock navigation unit. Has anyone seen anything on a removal of the storage bin in the middle of the dash along with placement of a custom unit?

Everything working in unison is probably the tricky part.

After sending all weekend, it is in. And it looks spectacular!!! It's a Pioneer 700BT, and I love it. I did the install my self, with the help of the DIY that Tennesseez posted on this thread (Thanks Bro). The unit fits like it is made for a 370z. I did put two 1/4" spacers on the top of the mounting brackets to move the radio forward, for a more flush fit. I can't get over how much cooler my car looks when I'm in it. Everyone you has seen it freaks at how slick it looks and how much stuff it can do. The total price with everything, radio, ipod cable, wiring harness, antenna adaptor, PAC steering wheel controller, shipping, & taxes was $598. I did pay the local stereo shop to help me hook up the steering wheel controller, which is the only thing that fell short of my expectations. It works, but is definitely not a good as it was with the stock radio. I plan on calling PAC to see if they have any suggestions to better configure it to the 370z.
The thing I was most concerned about was the boot time of the radio. I can't believe how quick it is. Yes quick. By the time I back out of my parking space, the radio is always playing before I can even put the car into drive. Which I find is a nice feature as I usually turn down/off my radio when I’m backing out anyways. Now it doses it for me. The system is booted up and good to go, by the time I'm pulling out onto the street.

Very nice integration, definitely the next thing on my list after the exhaust!!

A: My spacer was made out of spare parts from a Ikea lamp. But my suggestion is just to stack some washers about the size of a nickel, about a 1/4 to 3/8 of a inch high, around the mounts.

What mount? the 4 screws that hold the radio in place? I wouldnt mind moving my x920bt up a little bit

If you do that than what will you do with the actual radio in the car there will be two of them in there or are you gna use the new one as just a nav?

Mlizen 10-27-2014 08:37 PM

Did you have to buy a double din face plate that fits your climate controls?
