Damn, then they really are on tight. I think I'll let the dealer do the first change, it's free after all.

Free? Is this a deal for your specific dealership, or does it apply to all 370Z's?

It's up to the dealership. This particular dealer always gives the first change free on all their cars, has for as long as I can remember.

Did my first oil change tonight at 1800 miles. Everything went smoothly, the oil filter wasn't welded on like wstar's was. ;) Put the Nissan Ester Oil in (as it's too early to switch over to synthetic), used a K&N filter, and replaced stock drain plug with a Project Kics magnetic plug. I used a cordless impact wrench for all the undertray bolts -- makes it a heck of a lot easier/quicker than doing it by hand.

Is it absolutely necessary to remove the plastic undertray? On my 350Z I can manage to do an oil change with the undertray in place. Sometimes I get a little oil spilling on the tray and have to wipe it up, but generally the oil drains through the gaps and into a container.

Yes, it is absolutely necessary. There are no gaps. You can't even see the oil pan and filter until you remove the undertray, let alone reach it.

It's in the Owner's Manual. Page 9-2.

I only plan to use it to about 5000 miles, then I'll switch over to Motul 300V. Mind you, Motul is even more expensive ($30 per 2 quart container. But with Motul I don't mind the price so much, as it's an ester-based synthetic, whereas the Nissan stuff is just a conventional oil with an ester additive.

Just wanted to let you guys know, I showed up in uniform (Army) and they gave me a "military discount" at $8.63/qt and the filter was $5.10 (normally $7.08). So if you have a military ID card you might want to bust it out next time you go to your dealers parts counter..

How come for outside of the US they recommend an oil change interval of 6000 miles but in the US they recommend 3750? Are they trying to say that we are too hard on our cars over here?
haha that might be it but they probably just meant every 6000 Kilometers or 3750 Miles, mighta been a typo or that you just read it wrong or something, thats a small detail to notice so i can understand how you over looked it if thats the case lol. I say this becuase if you do the conversion of miles to km 3750 Mi works out to exactly 6000 km (1.6 km in a mile)

Misprint? Possibly. But nobody misread anything.

These are straight out of the Service Manual, which is available on this site in the Manuals section of the forum. I'm guessing you missed that and/or didn't bother looking it up, but to quote your own words, "thats a small detail to notice so i can understand how you over looked it."

Here's the North American schedule:

Now here's the schedule for everyone else:
http://i618.photobucket.com/albums/t...09-81733AM.jpg

Is it just a misprint? Maybe. But if it is, it's a pretty serious misprint, because it has people outside of North America doing their first oil change at 10,000 km rather than 6,000 km.
