Thanks for the DIY. Very detailed. It was exactly what I needed to make my decision to take this to a shop. Rep'ed.

confirming that there is no need for a spring compressor for the rear springs?

TongMan 05-04-2011 02:33 AM

Just completed my spring install. The rear requires no spring compressor. This is a great resource.

How was the wear and tear on your tires after the drop? Also did you install front and rear camber kit and get your cars allignment done again?

wheee! 05-24-2011 09:07 PM

lol, I don't drive enough these days to see ANY tire wear! no more than 200km's since install....

czheng51 05-25-2011 10:56 AM

with the tein s tech springs installed, did you need to get any camber kits installed?

No, no camber kit was needed for me. It does have slightly more camber, but not enough to warrant getting a camber kit.

Thanks!:tiphat:

Nice to see a spring install diy.

I think a difficulty of 2 out of 10 is misleading for anyone without a lift, power tools, and all the other tools a garage has. For the rest of us with the few tools and doing it solo, I think a 6 out of 10. Also I recommend people save themselves the time and grief and take it to sears or a garage and pay $50 to get the springs switched out. There's a guy on this forum who stripped the seal in his strut doing it himself.

$50!! Where do you live? ANY shop Ive gone to locally wants to charge me and arm and a leg ($250+) to swap out springs. They claim "the book" says 4.6 hours of labor.

CBRich 06-25-2011 05:05 PM

He's saying you take the front spring/strut assembly off and take it to them and they'll put the new spring on for that price. Then you mount it back up.

Stopped by Sears today, they said they will not do the spring swap as they will not do any work with any product not purchased through Sears...

...but I did goto my local shop and theyre more then willing to do it for me, time pending, Ill be starting this install in a couple hours.

Yeah the rears are a breeze, about 10 min a side:tup:

I would say that the shops assessment of 4.6 hours is pretty accurate. I "started" my install today and ran into several problems. Not even my air tools and impact wrenches could get the bolt off the front. The The spring compressor got had one with a bad thread. All in all it took me 4 1/2 hours to do one front spring. Exhausted, and bleeding. I stopped for now. I will do the other front tomorrow. I hope the rear springs are as easy as everyone says. By the way, not all springs are aligned the same, So even though you alighn the spring on the rubber top hat in the same position as stock, it wont necessarily fit in the car. I put the nismo spring in my 40th, and the top hat had to be rotated 90 degrees to fit. I had to take the assembly apart again, remove the rubber stopper ring on top, and rotate it. What a pain in the a$$. Lesson learned. All these issues aside, I thing the other front will be much easier. Oh yeh, no need to take off the tower brace :-)
