Pics of my hood strut mod

As I mentioned in a previous Thread about making my own hood strut with brackets that I've made. I got the made and installed on the car for almost a week now. The Tech. at the Dealership asked me where I bought them amd I told him that I made them. These are some quick pics that I've taken

I used 2 18-1/2" 45LB Shocks with 2 10MM Ball Connecters and I used Aluminum Angle rod for my brackets.

Nice job! looks pretty clean. I don't know why our Z's didn't come with these from the factory. Did you delete the prop bar or is it there as a back-up?

I want one! =P

Thanks, I left the prop in but I have it tied down so it is inoperable and it will never be a back up.

This Mod is fairly easy to make. I have not drilled, cut or grind anything on the car, I just used the existing holes and mounting surfaces.

Look nice, more details on what you used.

I used shocks that I bought from Nappa Auto Parts. I used a shocks with
10mm ball attachment, extension measurement of a min. 17" and a max. 0f 19" with a min. force of 45LBS and max. of 50LBS. I then bought a 3FT pc. of aluminum angle from the hardware store. You could buy all of this at McMaster-Carr I was too impatient to wait so I paid the extra money to have it now. I had to do some drilling, cutting, grinding, sanding and painting but only on the aluminum angle.

Has the positioning of the hood been affected at all by your mod?

kenchan 09-27-2010 09:47 AM

No not at all. That was one of the main reasons why Imade this mod because of that cheap $2 single prop that Nissan has placed on these cars that cuases the hoods to be mis-aligned. All of the weight of the hood sags to the passenger side of the car. Have you ever measured the gap between the hood and the bumper on the driver side and the passenger side of the car.

I removed it because I did not want to cut or drill into other things

I've made these for other cars that I've owned and never had any problems with them.

J. Dub 09-30-2010 03:18 PM

In for long term results. Also how difficult would it be to put the weather stripping back on?
