Stock air box: Molded or snapped together?

Hey DIYers,

Anyone know if the two halves of the OEM airboxes are just snapped together or are they molded together?

There appears to be a slot in the bottom for a screwdriver or other tool to pry the two ends apart, but there is very little give and I don't want to risk breaking it if the two ends are molded together.

This is for a custom intake project I am working on -- thanks in advance :tiphat:

Hmm... no replies.

Well, I tried to gently pry it apart and it aint budging, so I think the next step is to break out the bandsaw :D

If I can keep the flanges on either half intact, it will just need some screws for reassembly.

The goal is to separate the MAF tube, make a hole in the back, and have the largest cone filter I can fit in inside the box.

Despite the odd shape, should be able to fit a pretty decently sized filter in each, possibly with an angled flange (K&N sells those).

Anyway, should work well, net a little more power, and retain a nearly 100% OEM look.

Might do the modshack fangvents for additonal cool air induction too.

No....the airboxes come out. It just needs a little force. Also the tubes can be disconnected from the airbox.

I meant the two halves of the airbox once it's out ;)

Actually, I think I can just cut a round hole in the back that will seal to the base of a cone filter, so no need to chop the thing in half.
