My 09 was empty as mentioned. I put a CF1057 in there tonight. Thanks guys, I found this really usefull

Hey fellas, I just did this install tonight, I have a 2010 Z with only 6k miles, and surprisingly the oem filter was dirty, it wasnt THAT bad, but it was dirty. I replaced it with the FRAM CF10743 filter from Walmart, it was $29.

Thanks for the write up!

LinPark 09-03-2013 07:35 AM

Excellent write-up - many thanks!

What model of FRAM should I use for a 2010 370Z Sport Touring Roadster?

I use FRAM CF10140. You have to make a minor modification to make it fit. There is some pictures on page 1.

Edit: fixed

xTIMMYxCOREx 09-29-2013 01:26 PM

The FRAM CF10743 is .1 inch smaller than the FRAM CF10140, maybe that would make the fit better without modification?

eastwest2300 10-16-2013 09:39 PM

Yup, mine fit right in, its a tight fit, but a good fit..

Dude! That's what she said too! :bowrofl:

Anyway, got around to installing the one I bought recently - the STP CAF1766 - it looked to be about 1/4" deeper than the original one that was in there but it all ended up fitting fine.

Here is a pic of the stock filter that was in the car from day one:

Great thread and tutorial. Thanks!

Just did my 2011 with 7800 miles. Bought the filter from Parts Marvel on ebay.

Put mine in today in about 10 minutes. Real easy

Ok here is what to do if you want clean air inside your Z.
Bought the in cabin filter at Autozone for the Maxima seems like a lot of the Nissan's use the same filter.
1.About 6 screws to take glove box out then pull hard.
2.Open the vent door be careful the tab on the left on trap door breaks easy.
3.Insert filter and reassemble had to use a penny to hold left side tab broke.
4.Breathe the Clean Air.
5.Crank up the Red Hot Chili Peppers

First off, i would like to thank you for pioneering this DIY, but I hope you don't mind if i expand a little more and make corrections on your DIY.
Do this at your own risk, I'm not responsible if you break something using this easier modified directions.

First off. there are 7 screws total. Screw #6 is sort of a hidden screw.

Remove screw 1 -> 4. if you have a super long screw driver then remove 5 -> 7 also, if not then read next step.

http://imageshack.us/a/img194/2325/dsc01350da.jpg

Next pull off the glove box. Grab the 2 spots circled in red and pull upwards. This allows you VERY easy access to screws 5 -> 7 as well as a much easier time removing the panel. This step is OPTIONAL, but as i mentioned, it gives you easy access to screws 5 -> 7 and it also gives you a spot to grab panel to pull it off. To put the glove box back, just line up the hinge and pop it back in.

http://img109.imageshack.us/img109/1575/dsc01352m.jpg

Next GENTLY pull off the panel starting from the RIGHT side first. You don't wanna damage that extension area on the right side by pulling too hard on the left. Insert finger where the arrows are and grab the bottom with your other hand and pull. Do the same on the other side.
Removing the glove box lanyard is optional (actually, mines popped off as i was figuring how to put the glove box back in after accidentally removing it) but it gives you more space to work with.
Remember, pull GENTLY, you shouldn't have to pull hard after removing the hidden screw, #6.

The rest you can follow caneman88's to install/replace the filter. I just have one thing that I found might be useful and that is to cut 4 slots on the bottom of the filter wall so that you can close the vent door without smashing the filter. You'll know what i mean when you take off the vent door. Just line up the slots with the 4 things on the door and make like a 1/4" -> 1/2" cut. See pic for approx locations, measure the actual location with the vent door.

Yes the arrow on the filter points down. Air is sucked from the top and down into the circular thing.

I assume you guys know how to reverse the directions to put everything back.

Rep points much appreciated if you found this addition helpful

*edit* Fixed broken image. Let me know if the links are broken and I'll upload it again.

A BIG THANK YOU to both you guys for this DIY!

I finally got around to doing this after having the filter for almost 18 months. Super-easy to do, especially if you pop out the glove box. It literally pops off the hinges, it's just a little scary doing it the first time. Don't worry, those parts are super-meaty.

I forgot to re-attach the lanyard and just pulled it back off without removing any of the screws. Honestly, I would suggest you pull off the glove box before loosening any screws.

Once all that is cleared-out, accessing the filter is easy. Just remember that the locking tab for the filter door is on the right side. It pops right off then you slide out the locating tab on the left.

kenchan 03-08-2014 11:57 AM

my G's glove box rattled at the meaty hinge until i put a plastic sheet in the hinge to shut it up.... so for me, i would not want my Z to have the same rattle from the hinge. :eekdance:

 You know, I never put those screws back in since I first pulled it off. Much easier when i change the filter or mess with anything back there.

thanks for the DIY....doing it this weekend

axmea? 07-02-2014 08:22 AM

Despite taking out all the screws, mine won't pull out. What's the trick?

JARblue 07-02-2014 08:31 AM

First, make sure you got all the screws. Then give it a good yank towards you. There are two locations where it clips in. See the photo below - you can see one of the clips under the red arrow on the right.

I asked at a few places for the Fram CF10157 since it's a charcoal filter, but everywhere I looked it had to be ordered since it was a newer filter. So instead I went with the Fram CF10140 which is for the G35. It fits way better than the stock one which was a bit skinnier. This one is the same length and width, and leaves no gaps around the sides.

Cf10140 fits just right, thanks.

kenchan 08-11-2014 07:22 PM

huh... did not know that. :D

CF10157 are like 13.14 vs CF10140 around 11.99... whoppin 1.15 savings

kenhdcgov 09-02-2014 03:34 PM

Thanks so much for the step by step photos.
It made the task far easier! As noted the
2009 does not have a filter but the CF 101157
fit right in there. Yes, I had to order it but
it was worth it in the end, higher price and all.
Until the next time, deuces!

Skyscraper 10-20-2014 06:22 PM

Just finished this, since there wasn't one in my '09. Haven't driven her yet but not gonna miss that musty smell! Thanks guys! And for what it's worth, my local performance parts store had a part number come up when searching my year.

370zHawaii 10-25-2014 01:55 PM

Hi, this is a dumb question maybe. Trying to rationalize this. Without a cabin filter, where does that dirt, particles, bacteria, whatever it filters exactly go? The reason I ask is well I have an 09 and I am going to do this ASAP, I am sure the previous owner did not know about this. According to the maintenance schedule it is supposed to be change every 15,000 miles. I am at 56k miles. Where did that funk go? Thanks

SouthArk370Z 10-25-2014 04:46 PM

Most of it blew out the vents, into the cabin. Some will be caught in the duct work.

370zHawaii 10-25-2014 08:47 PM

Thanks, that's what I was pretty much thinking. I steam cleaned the entire cabin, seats, rugs, carpet, upholstery the whole pie inside a few days ago. Just put in the filter, while I was there I decided to clean as much as possible inside the filter compartment before dropping it in. Yes I am OCD:icon14: Thanks to the OP and everyone that has contributed to this thread, it was a breeze even in the dark, was too lazy to break out a drop lamp or head lamp. :tiphat:

SouthArk370Z 10-25-2014 08:56 PM

The fan will usually be the worst dust collector. If it's pretty clean, the rest of the system should be OK.

Nice writeup. Did have one question that relates to the last step in your original post.

BSSM?

Its time to me to make this happen this weekend:stirthepot:

my Z arrive to the 30k miles
