Base open diff to factory vlsd swap

First if all, I know that I should save my money and buy a real locking diff. Thanks for the input, but please save your typing. In the mean time, I have a factory vlsd laying around and I'm going to put it in my base Z. Problem is the vlsd is missing the stubs. Don't ask me why, I don't know. Can I just swap the stubs from my open diff? Do I need a different size? And if so where the f can I find one? Any help would be appreciated. It seems every thread where someone asks this question gets hijacked by everyone telling them to get a real diff and the original question never gets answered..

Nope. The stub axles for the VLSD are different lengths. You should be able to use the passenger side stub axle from your open diff. But you will need a different driver side stub axle.

Thanks for the info.

It looks like the passenger side is the longer one I need for the vlsd.. the driver's side is a couple mil shorter than the one in the vlsd, so I'm guessing I can reuse that one..

Another thing you have to watch out for. Some stub axles are either a through bolt and nut or threaded for the axles. This is how the axles bolt to the stubs.
