Sure. Here are the photos you requested ...

This post made me "Smile Out Loud".... (what?!)

I figured that there would be a bit of screen overlap, but figured I was safe as there is a rather thick frame around the actual view-able screen. My plan was to build a bracket that bolts to the original screen mounting points (I have a Navi model Z) that positions the horizontal screen where it needs to be. The big plus with the Joying units is the detachable screen and ribbon cable so you can put the screen where you want. I was going with the single DIN HU in the upper slot of the double DIN hole with a single DIN pocket (that comes with the stereo install kit) under it as the Z has no good place for a phone or anything. Then, I was going to build a cover panel that goes over the HU in the upper DIN slot that had USB data and charge ports (plus anything else I can fit in there that would be useful/cool).

My plan was make a custom bezel, which I would CAD and 3D print, but it looks like it would need to place the screen on the outside if I wanted to utilize both DIN slots and not have any random gaps.

The result would be (top to bottom):
  • Horizontal 9.7" screen
  • Cover panel over single DIN HU with USB data/charge
  • Single DIN pocket

Thanks again for the pics! It really helps see how things fit and I am happy to share my install when it begins (hopefully soon!).

Nice! I am glad those photos helped you visualize your plan. :tiphat:

I came across a post from another 370z forum where another 10.1 horizontal screen is installed at the cubby location.

It is also a Navi model and it does look nice. One of the downside for my setup is the thick bezel around the screen. I am figuring a way to solve this, hopefully the bezel will look less noticeable.

I look forward to seeing your build ;)

This build is currently on hold due to the LCD whining issue of my android HU.
I am currently waiting for the replacement HU from the manufacturer and I will post update once the build continues.:ugh:

Would that Worshop12 Brainiac thing be easier? Probably more expensive, but easier.

------------------------------------------------May 31, 2019------------------------------------------------

After a couple tries with mismatching the APKs from horizontal HU.

I had successfully flashed the vertical interface with the horizontal UI.

Here are some pictures of it:

I had successfully swap out the AUX, Bluetooth, Music, Video and SystemUI APKs....

It is still far from perfect but it seems to be a good start.

Thank you for reading... Please let me know if you have any questions.;)

You are making me reconsider my horizontal screen and other life decisions...

That configuration looks great! How hard is it to get the horizontal layout working on the vertical model? Can you create a write up? Would it be susceptible to rolling back from system updates? It seems like the vertical model would by much easier to fit properly. I just hate the cartoon-y stock vertical layout so much! This changes things.

Thank you! I am almost done with the bezel and I will update the thread once it is done!

In order to make the horizontal layout working on the vertical model, the Joying SD card tool will be needed to make bootable SD card then I tested varies APK from horizontal ROM and finally figured out a usable hybrid!

As for rolling back from system updates, I have tested with two Joying HU I have and as long as the ROM is written into the SD card by the tool and reset button is pressed during boot up. The system will automatically wiped and installed whatever is in the SD card no matter it is the matching ROM or not...

Please let me know if you have any other questions!

PS. I had installed another Joying 10.1 HU over the weekend and it has 4 built-in UI....

Here is the mock up on the bezel and it fits the screen perfectly.

I will just need to prime and paint it!

NOT 332hp 06-21-2019 02:03 PM

Instead of paint the bezel, I decided to vinyl wrap it with carbon fiber vinyl.

Here is the result of the warp.

My stereo build is almost complete and it is time to put everything back!

I discovered that Joying have a new 9.7 vertical headunit with 4G sim reader and better interface...

I might order a replacement computer module and swap out the current one....

Will report in once it is done..

I would LOVE to see this! I was also looking at the newer model. Can you comment on screen rigidity in your current install? Does it move at all when pressing it?
