Yes sir. The new ones can still blow out, but it's VERY rare. EPS makes a great gasket that I haven't seen fail.

They redesigned the gaskets for 2012 models. But there is a still a problem with the hardware used from the factory. My understanding is the design is such that it's difficult to torque them down properly. And this makes it hard to get them to torque down evenly across the gasket. So even in later model years with the improved gasket, the hardware is still prone to backing out or just being unevenly torqued which can lead to oil seeping even if the gasket is still intact. The EPS galley gasket kit includes new hardware to replace the OEM hardware.

The hardware in the CZP kit strips even easier than the OEM, fyi.

I just wanted to say huge thanks for this..I would buy you a beer. lol

I just bought a 2010 and now I read this. should I be worried? The car seems to run fine with no strange noises.

It's certainly a possibility. The higher the mileage and the harder driven the more likely that possibility becomes. Plenty of Z's are over 150K miles on them with no issues. It's not like the CSC or ESCL issues. I wouldn't stress over it. If you need to feel better about it, aside from tearing into the front timing cover to replace them, the best thing you can do is keep a close eye on your oil levels in case the gaskets start weeping.

Your oil level has nothing to do with the galley gaskets leaking. Then they leak, your oil pressure drops. You know that Jar.

One of the videos I watched, the gaskets were seeping but the pressure appeared to still be holding ok. The area around the gaskets was a bit of a mess with oil. He made a comment about his oil levels.

I never had an oil pressure gauge to monitor engine oil pressure. And the Z has never driven anything other than wonderfully.

But it is in the shop for some maintenance, one of which is the gallery gaskets - I bought the EPS kit. With 105K daily driven miles (bought new), this is all that remains of my upper oil gallery gasket, with the exception of a few small bits that fell off during removal. The gasket material is cardboard.

Wow! That is really eye opening.

Now I am worried about mine. They are 10 years old. Not high mileage but aged...

If it ain't knockin', rattlering and blowin' blue and white smoke out the tail pipe. It's good for another 100,000 miles.

Bringing this thread up for a few questions that turn back to the gallery gaskets.

I have a 2009 370z with 20.000km on the clock. It has been very much taken care of, but I'm 100% sure it still has original gallery gaskets. I'm planning to change them this winter.

My question is regarding oil and oil consumption. 5.000km ago (some half a year ago) I changed the oil and when it was put in, it was nearly clear. Now when I check the oil, I see that it turned gold in color, and on the dipstick the level of oil has dropped for about 1mm.
Is that color normal?
Should I be worried about the oil consumption?
Could this be an early sign of failing gallery gaskets?

Thanks for the info.

JARblue 10-01-2021 04:15 PM

Color sounds normal. The oil will turn darker with age.
Early models weren't immune to oil consumption so keep an eye on it.
Maybe. But not necessarily. They're probably fine until you replace them later this year.

I am finally getting around to getting this done. Are these gaskets good?
I don’t want to do this twice!

yes they're good

I created a thread on MyG37 about this, specifically on the rear timing cover, How to inspect your cam tensioner shoes (VQ35DE shoes are a direct fit at 1/4 of the price)
As well as removing the burnt oil from the internals.

After further research, newer superceeded gaskets were the way to go for me. Newer gaskets are no longer the paper ones utilized in older models.
Showed how to time your cam gears if you even go as in depth as I did.
