Urethane front lip paint and install

Hey guys!

I ordered a urethane SL replica front lip from eBay. It's black and I'm not very pleased with the way it looks (cheap black plastic). So I obviously want to paint it Pearl White (body color). Now, I don't have cash lying around to pay a paint shop $200-300 which means that I will make this a DIY project.

Do you recommend sanding it down/priming/painting my self? If it's a good idea, I'll just order OEM PW spray paint online and some clear coat to do the job.

Good luck.

It depends on your expectations. Pearl White is the most difficult color to paint.

If you haven't done this sort of thing before and want it to look right, I would just hold off and save your money until you can afford to pay a professional.

If your standards for paint matching aren't that high to begin with, then a DIY project might be a good option for you.

yep, how about you paint it matte black or try one of the 4D CF wraps?

:iagree:

One of these two will probably yield better results than trying to match the pw

Shouldn't be that much to paint..BUT when I installed mine they needed way better double sided tape then provided. I paid $100 to paint and 65 to install but they said it was a PITA..

Mine comes with screws and brackets. Also, can't I get a good match rattle can from automotivetouchup.com?

I intend to paint it all PW and then plastidip the center black.

I might just paint the sides and not even bother painting the center...since I will dip it black. What say? I plan to prep A LOT and sand it, clean, adhesion promoter, primer, coat, coat, coat, clear.

I want to maintain the PW on the body and not introduce black/CF.

I do my own paint on my car with spray can, and have had very good results. In my opinion 40th anniversary quarts is the most difficult paint to match with our Z's. Here are links to my threads.

Advice for you, I can tell you that you will need adhesive promoter before you lay down your primer. Primer directly sprayed on urethane will not stick. In my opinion frp or fiberglass is much easier to paint for a DIY, but it doesn't mean that it can't be done with urethane. Also remember to use 2k clear (2 part paint)!

I get my products from automotivetouchup.com, their paint match has been great for my projects, good luck!

Yeah...those are some good tips. I think I can do a decent paint job after my plastidip adventures...kinda got my mind hand coordination sorted. But after several warnings from people lol..I'll probably get it professionally done.

Probably better off. plastidip is a lot different than paint.

I got a quote from a local shop I found on CL.$ 170 for painting the lip pearl white.
