Mysterious residue on center console
So lately I've been having a weird issue with my center console apparently sweating or becoming greasy looking when left parked out in the sun. I can swipe it with my finger or a microfiber cloth but its not greasy and whatever that residue is doesn't transfer away. Eventually it seems to evaporate on its own during the day. No leaks and nothing else in the car gets like that. Any suggestions?

Weird and puzzled.....????

Looks like it is leaching out excess vinyl cleaning product.

Any volatiles left over from manufacturing should have evaporated by now. My guess is that whatever you are using to clean the console is "sweating."

Guess I'll give the good old dawn dish soap a go and see if that cleans it up for good and gets rid of whatever chemical is leaching out of that cover. It's probably some poisonous toxic stuff and I've been screwing around with it for a few months now lol.

Dish soap can leach the plasticizers from plastics causing brittleness. |
Do you have gum in there? I had some mint type gum in mine that when in the sun, it would somehow do the same thing. Took the gum out, never happened again. Prolly some weird science stuff. Where's Walter White when you need him?

Hi
Do you normally rest your arm, on the arm rest while on your cell phone, or maybe at a stop? Do you use any sunscreen lotions? Hair gunk? My friend who uses Sun Screen lotion on his head, leans on his head rest and same thing happened. I told him it was his slathered on sunscreen lotion...lol! Sweatnlotions no-no.. |
Yeah I do rest my arm on it but last few months being winter I've been wearing jackets and long sleeved shirts. I think the other folks above are right its some chemical escaping from prior cleanings. Hopefully it will take its course and get out if its system and all will be well. Definitely staying away from any harsh cleaning products for a while.
