This is true. On previous cars I have always used a carnuba wax and was pleased with the results although they were short lived.
I have a platinum graphite Z now and based on a friends recommendation tried Mcquire's NXT sealant. I liked the ease of application and removal and it seamed to last longer than the wax. But, on the graphite color, the gloss on it just didn't look as good. As NXTAZEE put it, the sealant was more of a candy shine than a deep wet look that I got with carnuba wax. So the last time I waxed it I layed on a coat of the NXT and then put on a layer of Mcquire's Gold Class carnuba wax. Laid both layers on by hand and removed with a random orbital buffer. The results were much more impressive. I got the deep wet gloss look that I was hoping for with this method and it wasn't really that much extra work.

I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong as my car looks a little dirty after I clay it. The residue (a mixture of, I'm guessing, the liquid you spray on, a bit of what comes off the paint and a tiny bit of clay) comes off easily when washed.

I once used a mixture of Baby shampoo and water; it does the job but the clay bar starts to have bits coming off.

If you use a correct liquid spray, the clay bar should stay in one piece.

It's not even chunks, it just seems to be residue... kind of like when you wear a watch in the shower, once it dries it has some white residue on it from not getting all the soap off.

mm....suppose to clay one section of a car at a time.

Use micro-towel to wipe it dry when u are done claying.

This is normal, depending on the lubricant and clay being used you may get some messy residue. Just wash it agin and you should be good, if not use a pre wax cleaner then your favourite wax or sealant.

some softer clays are like that. try using more lube when claying and as other mentioned, a pre-wax cleaning after your clay session.

Griot's recently released a product just for that... not paintprep, but pre-wax cleaner after clay. :)

When I clay vehicles I use a foam gun with my favourite car soap. I don't like using quick detail spray. It's messy and very expensive compared to using a foam gun with car soap. As long as you use a sudsy soap it works much better than a quick detail spray.

I just used NXT wash and tech wax for first time on Pearl White at 450 miles. Nice warm shine looks like porcelain. Natural shine inside and Black Magic tie and wheel to finish. Overall very happy with results. Personally don't think it needs another wax but would be interested what others with PW think. Maybe next time...

so today had to avoid these idiot bicycle riders in the wooded areas and had to drive over a bunch of wet dead leaves bunched up in the center of the road. :mad:

so much crappage got wedged into the mudflaps, wheel wells, and down the bottom of the sidesill it wasn't funny. after cleaning the wells and mud guard (which is only aesthetic) took my mirror tool and a paper towel with Griot's SprayOn wax and cleaned the entire bottom of the side sill to where the metal rail is. so much crap came off.

might i suggest you guys do the same for the health of your car. :D

I have the Montery Blue and it has quit a bit of swirls in it. I have clayed the car about 2 weeks ago and then waxed it but I want to get rid of the swirls. Whats the best process for this? Should I clay again, wash, polish then wax? Is it the polishing that gets rid of the swirls? Is there a wax that does better on the blue? Thanks.

Take it to a professional, swirl removal is not for the average person. Knowledge and experience are needed. If you want to tackle it your self visit Autopia - Autopia Home to gain the knowledge needed for such a job.

I just used Meg Tech wax paste on my Z and the results are fantastic! The shine is really noticeable but I am really impressed with the deeper colour.

I purchased a Maguire car care set online and noticed it does not come with a polish, just wash, wax, tire spray, and a quick detailer.

So I went to walmart today and bought some Turtle Wax ICE car polish. However, after looking online, this polish is more of a wax than a polish.

I plan on using Maguire's NXT liquid wax about 4-5 times a year and I"m looking for something to use after each wash to bring the shine back out. Is that what this ICE is used for? Is there something better?

matt- for your polishing needs (if off the shelf) try some megiar's ScratchX and a foam pad. it takes some elbow grease to remove swirls but it is an effective polish.

those waxes with abrasives are great for dd...but those i wouldn't use more than twice a year. the abrasives are pretty course vs ScratchX.

for your wax as your dry product, i suppose any spray wax would work, but for me
i use Prima Hydro. it is by far the best and durability is about your NXT. it is a polymer based spray.
