Microfiber recommendations
 

All,

What premium microfiber cloths (brand/size) do you recommend for applying and removing liquid or paste wax? In addition, what about applying and removing polish or glaze?

Any responses will be greatly appreciated.

I use Detailer's Domain microfiber for anyhting on the paint. I wouldn't bother with polish or glaze if you're doing it by hand. Just wash, clay, wax and go. Get a polisher if you want to polish it. Your arms will thank you.

I then use a microfiber to remove the residue. Adam's towels are high quality but on the pricey side. I bought some stocktowelsnow.com double plush microfibers that I am pleased with. On the cheaper end, the Meguiar's Supreme Shine microfiber is acceptable (I have a few of them that came in clay and wax kits I purchased).

Be sure you pick up some Griot's Microfiber cleaner solution, too. It does a great job removing wax and other residue and helps keeps your towels in excellent condition.

get these. make sure to completely remove tags and wash them before use. :)

these are by far the bestest ive tried. and ive tried many brands. the best part about these MF towels is that they are dual sided long thread. :tup:

I also use Griot's. They sell them at advance auto and if you search "advance auto coupon", you can get 20 - 30% off your whole order. I purchased everything "Griot" that they sell.

stocktowelsnow.com has an ultra plush microfiber that is very nice.

Using cheaper microfiber will often result in needing to do more work to the paint and that defeats the purpose. Try and find borderless or protected border microfibers. I personally only use Adam and Uber from Detailers Domain. They are very high quality and have little to no chance of damaging the paint, causing webbing or clearcoat scratches which you see in certain angles of light. Nothing is perfect but this is the best option. Keep in mind different towels have different uses. You might want a waffle weave to gently run over the paint to take up large water drops then step down to a plush drying microfiber with detail spray, then even to some detail spray and a double plush. Keep in mind ive made my detailing more like a science and im always learning something new...most people arent as neurotic as I am so take it with a grain of salt.

Chemical Guys also has some pretty good microfiber towels for fairly cheap, especially if you buy a lot of them.

I bought some at Walmart for about $3 or $4.

I can't say I would recommend these, but if you're having success with them, more power to you. I would be checking for swirls constantly if I were using them.

This. I don't see a huge difference between these and the crap ones at autozone or pep boys. IIRC, chemical guys has some good ones for about half that price.

Pep Boys actually has some pretty nice towels but they aren't cheap. It's less expensive to pick up a nice pack of good towels online. Detailers Domain has pretty good prices.

I may actually pick up a pack of these. My quick detailer towel is starting to show it's age a little.

Whatever you get make sure they are really plush. Those cheap ones from, lets say target will scratch the **** out of our paint.

Make sure you care for them properly as well. Use microfiber specific detergent and make sure you don't use fabric softener in the dryer. Low heat on the dryer.

The Griot's Microfiber Cleaner solution actually recommends you just use normal laundry detergent along with their solution. Just make sure the laundry detergent doesn't have any fabric softener in it already and don't add any separately either. I use regular Tide and a few oz of Griot's solution in hot water for the wash cycle, and then I line dry.

Are those the same ones that come with their clay bar kit?

Or just buy new ones ;)

Well the ones from Walmart were actually more plush and soft than some that ended up costing me more. They seem to do just fine. I realize not all microfiber towels are the same so what specific qualities do you look for?

I've had all types, and the ones from chemical guys and detailers domain are far superior. You just need to look at them side by side. If you buy a bunch, chemical guys gets pretty cheap.

I just wanted to chime in here. I recently purchased some Chinchilla Microfiber towels. They're the best microfiber towel I've used yet, but I don't have a wealth of experience with the variety of towels that others do. It is more expensive, but I feel it's worth the extra cost.

No need to buy those "over-priced" microfiber clothes from those brand name detailers. I have been using 3M one for all kinda purposes from interior cleaning to wax applying. You can get those for $3.99 at the cleaning section at Target. Very good quality fabric and they last forever.

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... i still prefer Griot's green MF towels.

Uber towels are amazing from detailers domain. Much more budget friendly than adams.
