How many microfiber cloths does it take when you wax your z?
 

Getting ready to wash, clay, and wax my z myself for the first time, and was wondering how many microfiber cloths you generally go through during the wax phase when you buff the wax off.

Generally I use one to remove the wax, and a separate one to buff. You can get away with 1 each I think on our car, but I will normally get new ones halfway through, depending on if I'm using a spray wax or normal wax. So 2, maybe 4 if you want. That is just for removing the wax.

I also use 1-2 for drying, 1 for drying dirty areas (door jams), 1-3 for drying panels after claying, etc..

Yea I've used spray wax before on other cars I've owned but haven't used a proper carnauba paste wax so I was curious. I've got an awesome waffle weave Adams cloth for drying.

on my normal QD routine, i use about 10 towels. these are one sided (one side has longer thread than the other).

you can get these double sided ones from griots. these are by far one of the best mf towels imho. just make sure to completely remove the tag before use, and wash it before use as well.

in the future when my one sided ones wear out (i have like 24), i will just buy more of these.

These are the towels I generally use in a full detail. I accumulated them over time, and I keep the nicer towels in excellent condition by washing them immediately after use (hot water, delicate cycle, line dry) with Griot's microfiber cleaning solution and regular Tide laundry detergent (NO fabric softener). Any towels that get excessively dirty, I wash separately or along with the cheap, generic towels that tend to get the dirtiest.

1 Adam's Great White waffle weave drying towel for paint (huge and awesome but pricey at $25 for one).

2 No-name, ok-quality waffle weave drying towels for wheels

5+ small throw-away towels for wiping up the excess water in the door and hatch openings (these are the small, generic microfibers you can find at any auto parts store for dirt cheap - I typically wash them 2-3 times before they go in the trash).

2 Meguiar's Supreme Shine towels for wiping up excess detail spray during clay (thin, but acceptable quality and fairly inexpensive at 3 for $8)

2 Ultra Plush large towels for wiping up excess glaze (from stocktowelsnow.com)

2 MSS towels for wiping up excess wax
2 Ultra Plush large towels for buffing wax

2 MSS towels for interior dash and interior plastics
