I need a new wash mitt.

Which ones are you guys using and why?

1st 08-06-2012 10:40 AM

I do not have a specific brand just something soft and NOT MICROFIBER.

dmhenderson 08-06-2012 10:54 AM

Yeah, what he said. I think mine came from Pep Boys. 2 buckets and a grit guard and it doesn't matter much what you use for the mitt.

Ive got a lambswool one..... but dont use it. Ive noticed how ANY mitt scratches and on black it shows. I bought a pressure washer with a few different heads and a leaf blower.

Here some good tools for washing.

Grit Guard for your bucket.

many love the Uber Yellow Wash Sponge as well as the Uber Wool Wash Mitt

I have everything but the mitt. ive been washing my car myself since I bought it. Thanks for the sponge recommendation DD.

I use a grout sponge. Price makes it disposable

i use adam's car wash pad. it releases soap really nicely.

I get a 100% cotton white bath towel from bed bath and beyond -- just be sure it is a high quality one. I also cut off any borders. This has worked great for me, and I haven't had any visible scratches. Also very easy to throw in the wash machine and re-use. Obviously using plain liquid detergent, and I always run thru the rinse cycle twice.

Oh detailersdomain. You will take all of my money yet.

+1 - I have a couple of the Wash Mitts and they're great.

dmhenderson 08-08-2012 07:08 PM

The grit guards they sell are great too - just take it out of your bucket afterwards (esp if it's hard plastic) because the temperature changes will slowly work it down inside the base of the bucket until it breaks.

Wait....wats wrong with a microfiber mit? Is it not good to wash your car with?

whoady4shoady 08-10-2012 07:28 AM

I went to DDs website the other day thanks to the recommendation to spend looking to spend maybe $20. How did I end up spending $120. :-(

dmhenderson 08-10-2012 04:55 PM

You misunderstood. I was telling you to stay AWAY from dd. They take all of your money.

The adams polish/glaze/wax kit is glorious.

Microfiber picks up and holds onto dirt/grit/anything & everything it touches. Now imagine you're rubbing that all over your car...

but if i don't use mf mit and use something else, wouldn't the other mits leave microfibre scratches cause it's not microfibre???

Yes, that statement above is incorrect. You want microfiber because what it catches gets caught in deeper pockets of the mitt and DOESNT scratch your car... Especially if you wash correctly... You want Microfiber mitts... or Sheepskin...

I use microfiber and the two bucket system with grit guard. If car is filthy I rub the mit on the guards even more to knock off any dirt/debris that could be stuck to the mit. No scratches! A sponge, wool mit, etc are going to be coming into contact with the same dirt/debris and will be stuck on the mit just as it would be on the microfiber. Microfiber you can see what is on the mit itself as you can a sponge. The wool mits or any mit with the long hair/fabric can hide the dirt/debris causing you to swirl/scratch the paint as you cant easily see it on the mit all the time. My :twocents:

Exactly... Very Good..

Although, I stay far away from "sponges" on my paint.. I dont mind them for the wheels...
