2010 M-Benz E350 Detail

Hi guys

I hope everyone is staying warm this winter and your beloved ride is well protected from the winter elements.

I have a 2010 M-Benz E350 in for it's first ever detail. It rained the whole day, so the car came with a lot of road grime. The owner only wanted a exterior protection detail, no interior detail was carried out here... The paint had a lot of contaminates and rear bumper was damaged, couldn't do anything about the damages. Wheels were filthy after years of improper caring, so I did my best to clean them.

So here we go

Paint

  • CG CWG
  • MS SGS
  • Iron X
  • Stoner Tarminator
  • Ricarrdo Clay
  • Sonus Green clay
  • GG glass clay
  • IPA 2:1
  • Tons of MF towels
  • Metro Vac & blow
  • I-845

Wheels and Tires

  • Megs WB 4:1
  • AG CWC 1:1
  • 303 Aerospace on tires
  • I-845 on rims
  • Metro Vac & blow
  • MF towels

Interior

  • 1Z cockpit
  • Metro Vac & blow

Glass

  • I-845
  • Stoners glass cleaner
  • DD glass towels

IPA is used to remove polymers from clay-lube to aid bonding with wax or sealant.

Interesting I've never seen IPA being used on a car before. Isn't clay lube essentially Detail Spray? Maybe you might be using something different? I always thought detail spray was recommended alongside use with Wax? Always interested in learning new methods!

I'm pretty sure you'd want wax or sealant on freshly cleaned paint vs on top of detail spray.

You're not applying on top of detail spray, but rather cleaned paint by detail spray... So i dont understand whats the purpose of IPA?

IPA removes everything from the surface, waxes, sealants, polishing oils (although I didn't see any correction done in the video)

While not required, it is a step that can be done to be sure the paint is completely clean prior to laying down a sealant or wax.

I don't know what detail spray you're using, but the detail spray I normally use, Meguiar's, leaves a wax like detail over my paint. :ugh2:

all detail spray or clay lube leaves something behind. stuff like fillers, gloss enhancer, silicone, and other stuff that will affect wax / sealant bonding.

Im not saying that it won't bond to your paint, but it will bond better if you used IPA to wipe down the paint before putting a layer of wax.

or better yet some manufacturers sell paint cleanser to be used before waxing/sealant to ensure a long lasting protection.
