PC polishing and clear bras
 

Hello all,

I have picked up a PC Polisher and some of Adam's Polishes products. My only concern is what to do with the clear bra after unsuccessfully searching for information in this and Adam's Polishes forums.

My best guess is that I use the SHR on the paint, then use the FMP and MSW on the clear bra as well.

Would this be the correct course of action, or am I headed for an expensive disaster?

I wouldn't recommend using anything that has abrasives in it. You will end up scratching the clear bra. I only ever put a coat of wax on it, same as the car.

Car polish works fine and provides protection. The only word of caution is to be careful around the seam. The polish leaves a powder residue around that seam.

With our stuff you don't want to go anymore aggressive than the white pad and Fine Machine Polish for light correcting. Definitely mask the edge off with painters tape to avoid getting it caked up along that edge.

Other than that, maintain it with detail spray or waterless wash, apply a coat of your preferred wax or sealant regularly and thats about it.

Polishes are used to correct defects, but don't provide protection. A sealant or wax is what provides protection.

Painter's tape...brilliant! Thanks to everyone for the great instuction and information. For this first time I will only wax the clear bra and see what the results are. If there are some scratches and swirls I will use the FMP and go from there.

Polishing Clear Bra
 

I can telll you that the biggest thing you want to keep in mind when maintaining a clear bra is to avoid using products with petroleum distillates like kerosene, toluene, zylene, and naptha.

These products will dry out any urethane film, causing the pores to open up. This will essentially turn your clear bra into a giant dirt sponge. If you have ever seen a hazy or yellowed "clear" bra, this is usually the culprit.

Use natural waxes or sealants on the product and it should look good for years to come.

By the way, in the interest of full disclosure, I work for a clear bra film manufacturer.

Great points. I have had a lot of problems using kerosene-based products and it basically just wasted a lot of my time and money.

While at Bloomington Gold Corvettes, I spoke with a 3M representative, the manufacturer of the original Clear Bra. Now this only goes for a 3M bra and I cannot vouch that it works on any other manufacturer's bra. This is also something that only someone experienced in advanced paint correction would do. In other words, a professional.

Apparently, you can treat a 3M Clear Bra like paint. You can wet sand on it, use paint correction practices on it and even wax it. You still want to stay away from the seams and edges but if any of it gets damaged, you can fix it like real paint. I have a representative that does installs for 3M that I have been meaning to get in touch with so that I can practice on this stuff myself but I've been kinda busy. Once I do get to work with him, I plan to do a video on it.

So for you folks who use the real stuff as far as clear bras go, you're in luck. Everyone else, you need to talk to the manufacturer.

Coming from 3M it doesn't suprise me that you can do that to it, but for right now I think I will just mask mine off except for the waxing. It is still in good condition.
