One Pass with SSR & SHR - LOOK!

Here is a car that a buddy of mine bought over for me to look at. As you can see, it was covered in swirls. However, I was able to do what I did with the Flex 3401VRG and some Adam's Severe Swirl Remover and Swirl & Haze Remover. My technique combined with that machine and those products created these results. This is not a machine for a novice, but if you are experienced with the PC-7424XP, you can add this machine to your arsenal. Let's review this, as I have shown how to do this a whole bunch of times in my videos. All of the swirls are not gone, but most people would give an arm to have this much improvement in their swirled up cars.

This is your car:

http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/h...lack_caddy.jpg

This is your car on drive through car washes, one bucket washes and improper dust removing practices:

http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/h...ck_caddy_2.jpg

This is my buddies car after using the Flex with one pass of Severe Swirl Remover on the green pad, and Swirl & Haze Remover on the orange pad. No Fine Machine Polish has been used at this point (which would be the last and final step before applying wax), and look at the results!

Class dismissed.

The Junkman

Methodical4u 07-03-2011 03:11 PM

It looks nice man, but in all honesty the swirls look pretty much all superficial. I have gotten similar results with my Flex DA, orange pad and Menzerna power gloss.

It does look nice and GM has very hard paints as well though so if someone was in the market for a good swirl remover, this might be a good product to try out.

MacCool 07-03-2011 03:31 PM

Nasty swirling, AJ. I still see some micro-marring after the SHR, ought to come right out with the Fine Machine Polish I know you're getting ready to use.

Thus far, the PC with Adam's polishing stuff has more than met my needs. What would be the advantage to the Flex polisher? Is it just faster? Or would there be some other reason to use it if we're only talking paint correction a few times a year?

You cannot look at a picture of some swirls and tell what it is going to take to remove them. I have dealt with cars that appeared to be a lost cause and cleaned up real quick. At the same time, I have seen cars that didn't look that bad, but I thought would take Jesus himself to fix because they were so hard to correct.

As far as what I use, this is not a comparison thread. I'm showing what I used and how it worked. There are no telling how many products that I can use to do this, but there is only one that I use who offers their customers a 110% money back guarantee if they are not truly satisfied with their results.

Menzerna is NOT that product.

Actually, I wouldn't move to Fine Machine Polish until ALL the damage was removed. I wanted to show my friend just how easy this stuff was so I used the Flex to speed up my results. That is the one advantage of the Flex. Faster paint correction.

One thing to note. The Flex is not a machine that I would use alone. It is a machine that I would use to compliment a less powerful machine like the PC. Once you have managed to remove all the damage from your paint, there is absolutely no need to keep touching your paint with something like the Flex. If you have to constantly fix your paint with the Flex, then you are obviously doing something wrong when you touch your paint. The PC is the perfect polisher to maintain your paint after all the damage has been removed.

Here's my rule of thumb with paint correction. A full correction should be a one time event in the life of your paint. From that point forward, proper washing and dust removal will result in you never having to do a full correction again. Yes, you will pick up minor damage with the use of your car but this damage should be easily removed with the PC and some Fine Machine Polish. Something is wrong if you have to get more aggressive than that.

If you are getting what you need out of the PC, by all means stick with it. I would never say that the Flex is better than the PC, only that it offers something different and has it's place in a detailing arsenal. Look at it like adding twin turbos to your Z. That doesn't make it better than a stock Z (especially with the price of gas), but it makes it better if the application that you used your Z for was bracket strip racing. So the word "better" has to be looked at in the context for which it is used. :)

MacCool 07-03-2011 04:38 PM

Yeah, I think I'll pass on the Flex for the time being. My finish came out to my satisfaction with the PC after the dealer's new-car "detailing", now all I'll need to do is hit it 2-3 times a year for touch up. I should be fine with the PC.

I agree about the other products. Adam's stuff was what I stumbled onto first and it's been easy to use and given excellent results. I'm sure there's other good stuff out there, but I see no need to explore the landscape any further. Excellent customer service and 110% guarantee.

And I came from exactly the other direction. I used a bunch of stuff until I found Adam's and like you found it very simple to learn and for me, to teach with. Like you, I have no need to do a bunch of experimenting because I have products that deal with every level of paint care. I don't do this for a living so experimenting is nothing but a waste of money for me. I have something that works and in the end, that's all I need.

Menzerna is NOT that product.

Menzerna doesn't need that guarantee because their product delivers... if it doesn't then you are doing something wrong.

I wasn't comparing, I simply stated that the car did not look that bad and it doesn't... I too have been doing this for a while and I know when I see something if it's pretty bad or not.

This isn't a pissing contest and I don't really care how you got swirl marks out of something... basically ANY product out there that is a polish will take out what you did or what I have with cars i've done. It's about what each person likes... why do they like one product over another? They all have their reasons.

I talk to professional detailers all the time and learn things quite often that I didn't know.. you said before you don't do this for money... well I do. I also do it for enjoyment, as I like to take cars and make them look good... nothing wrong with getting paid for that in the process.

The PC is nice.. the Flex is quite a powerful machine and unless you require serious correction, or plan on detailing for money then it's likely not needed. I don't like how the PC bogs down under pressure. The Flex doesn't do this... not much pressure is needed, but the PC has a lot of uses and everyone should own one even if that isn't their main machine for correction. I like it to apply my waxes/sealants and to get into small areas for correction.. the Flex is big and can be hard to maneuver sometimes.

Adam puts his money were his mouth is. I haven't seen that from Menzerna. Also, Adam's supports this forum. Don't see Menzerna listed anywhere. Maybe you could prod them for a sponsorship? Every little bit helps keep the lights on around here.

How long you have been doing this doesn't make the car appear in front of you. If that was the case, tell me how many passes of your product choice it would have taken to fix this? Keep in mind, I already know the answer...

Number 1... you would have to tell me the make, model and year of the car if you even want a guess... number 2 I can tell you how many passes of the polishes I personally have used it would likely take.

Aside from all of that... it's not that important to me what you do that sweat isn't in the equation because I enjoy sweating, I enjoy physical activity. I enjoy making people happy with their car and that it looks "better than the day they bought it".

I never said anything about Adam in this thread... I never said anything bad about the product at all did I? Please do quote where I did if I seem to have missed that. I said that similar results could be gotten from other types of polishes and they can. I said I PERSONALLY like the Menzerna polishes... but i'm not going to plug them and push them onto other people as the end all be all either.

Class dismissed? What is this crap? You act like you are the only one here who knows anything about paint correction which is just plain stupid. There's a lot of other guys on here who have already had experience with doing this for a while.

Adam's has a nice line of products... Phil uses them in many of his details and Dylan had enough guts to come out and post that he liked what he said from the car I had been working on after he and I disagreed about some things, which speaks about his level of maturity and I like that. Would I go out and buy the whole line of Adam's polishes? No, but would I try them? Sure I would if I was tired of what I was using, or just wanted to use something different. Their all purpose cleaner is something i'm interested in actually. I may start there.

Lastly... weren't YOU the one who said it's all about technique? What about that?

I thought you said this wasn't a pissing contest?

That car required a repaint. So the make, model and year doesn't matter. You can't tell that by looking at the picture, you had to test the car with a paint thickness gauge.

So much for looking at pictures. :tiphat:

Phaddi_inc 07-04-2011 01:19 AM

looks great!

I was wondering how does the yellow pad stack up versus the green pad? does it have anywhere near as much 'cutting' ability?

I'm about to start my black SUV but its in pretty rough shape, and from the test spot I did it seems the clear is very hard...I'm debating on ordering the green combo for this one and was curious about how these pads stack up.

Thanks!

Man come on... the thickness of the paint has nothing to do with swirls and how much correction it would have needed.

Either way, no it's not a pissing contest... it looks good for one pass... and as I had already stated... it might be a good product to try out for one who was looking for a good swirl remover.

He said he was using an orange pad which is a good sort of middle of the road cutting pad... not to aggressive, but you can use a higher cutting polish to help out.

Typically the yellow pad is rather aggressive... you might want to get one just in case you need it, but more than likely an orange with either what he is using or another medium to heavy compound.

It also depends on the brand... I think most brands of pads use the typical yellows, orange, blue, white, black, green, etc. I believe meguiars uses different colors however.

I haven't personally tried comparing the yellow and green pads with Severe Swirl Remover so I can't speak as for the results personally. That would be a good question to hit Adam up on at the warehouse. The number is 866-965-0400. He would definitely be able to answer that question as he knows the source of those pads. I can say that it definitely won't hurt to try the yellow pad if you have one. Just make sure that you follow it with the Swirl & Haze Remover and the orange pad. Adam has color coded the pads to his polishes so that you don't have to guess what to use on what pad. That's what makes this so easy to use and learn, without all the confusion you may have with other brands.

lol ok man... just keep spreading some of your lack of knowledge... like you're comment that a paint should only have to be corrected one time... ask PRO detailers that question and their all going to tell you otherwise... but whatever makes you sleep well at night.

I don't know anything about today's fighters. My era was over when Tyson lost. I haven't cared about boxing since. I was not only a fan, I even did body guard work for him. He was nowhere near as crazy as people think.

I always felt sorry for Mike in all honesty. I think that he just needed help and never got the right kind... a shame really, but still... he'll be in the record books for life, he's got much to be proud of.

I think most of what he did was all hype as well. He just always came across to me as a very lonely guy with a lot of fake friends who took his money.

Methodical4u 07-05-2011 12:00 AM

My Mother ran into Ali once ... literally... she was late for a flight (my Father was a gospel singer and she was headed out to where he was singing) and she was sort of hurrying along and ran right into him. She said she looked up and there he was with 2 bodyguards... he just said "Let the lady go by boys" ... she said "he was a good lookin' fella" lol.
