ive seen people use simple green to clean their engine bay. i usually just wipe it down since it doesn't get too dirty.

So our Z's are ok to sprey with some kind of dirt and grime disolver then hose off? I know there are cars out there that wont start after hosing down the engine bay so i was always scared to do it to the Z.

Simple green is the shiz. I use it on my four wheelers after the first rinse down. I rarely need a rag for plain old dirt. Don't use it on a warm engine, it could stain the aluminum.

i've used simple green myself and it's good stuff... i've seen many people (and I myself have tried it as well) is spray it down with a cleaner, scrub the stubborn spots, let everything dry and then people just saturate all under the hood with Armor All... might not be a good idea as I don't clean engine bays much anymore, but it did look good.

Cover anything electronic and spray with water. I use Adam's All-Purpose Cleaners and a soft long hair brush. Spray & let it sit for a few minutes and brush everything off. Use the "shower" on the spray hose, not the "jet" & rinse. Unless the dirt is caked on, this usually works for me. I dry it off using an air compressor or leaf blower. Once dry, I spray some Adam's In & Out spray on the plastic parts. It really works great for areas you can't get to easily with an Armor All type product and doesn't leave the surface greasy.

I'm sure other products will work, but I already had the Adam's stuff so that's what I used. Just don't use the engine de-greasers you see in auto parts store. Those can get really aggressive and leaves a noxious odor if you don't rinse everything off. Not to mention, the stuff stains your driveway.

i use simplegreen as well 50/50 with water when needed.

i dont like spraying water into the engine bay so i just do a mist and wipe. i keep my engine bay very clean on my Z so i rarely have to use any liquids. i just use my dry MF towel and remove dust. :p

I've only used the water meathod once since I got my car. I usually wipe it down when I do a wash & blow off the dust with an air compressor. To get everything clean though, you have to use water.
