First attempt @ detailing
4 Attachment(s)
I just finished detailing the Z. I've been reading / watching everything I can get my hands on and followed a combination of Junkman's and Adam's videos. I purchased a PC 7424XP from Amazon for ~$120. I also got a leaf blower from Lowe's for ~$20 (ty Xan). I used Meguiars microfiber mitts (one for top half of the car / one for bottom) and I got a Foammaster II from Amazon for about $38. The rest was from Adam's. I got a full set of 6.5" pads, Swirl and Haze Remover, Fine Machine Polish, Machine SuperWax, Detailer Spray, All Purpose Cleaner, and some Glass Microfiber towels (which were amazing).
I was about to give up within the first hour because it seemed like too big of a job and I was HOT! I stuck with it and I'm glad I did. It looks considerably better than when I paid someone $150 to detail it a few weeks ago. Thanks to Junkman and Adam's for the info and great products. |
The car looks good. I just bought all the same stuff. Hopefor the same results

Looks great! Good work!
In case there are any spots that still need a bit more work, try a 4" pad... |
First off, that's a beautiful color! I've always wanted a car that color. Secondly, those are some outstanding results for a first time detailer. You definitely paid attention to the videos.
Let me offer some help. Remember, this is not a race. You can break your car up into parts and work on it over days or even weeks. Just make sure that it is spotless before you start each time. Second, you spoke of the heat. It appears that you were in the shade which is highly recommended. I can see where the SHR was dusting up a little. Make sure that the surface of the car is cool before working on it and that you don't use too much polish. You are well on your way. Keep it up and you'll be charging that detailer you paid to learn from you. ;) |
