Fresh paint questions ....
 

I have a 2017 z and ran over something on the highway that dented my front bumper. A very reputable body shop is going to order and paint a new bumper for me. I just have 2 questions:
1: should I expect the paint to be as good/durable as factory? I know we don’t know exactly what type of paint they are using but this is my first time having something like this done
2: how long should I wait to polish/seal/wax it?

1) the factory paint is nothing special so, if they're a decent shop, should be fine.

2) My understanding is that with modern paints, you really don't need to wait to wash/wax, etc. BUT, to be safe, you could wait a week.

The new shop will be heavier on the clear than factory. And nearly every shop will tell you to wait a minimum of 30 days to wax, or seal. The chemicals need time to "gas out". You CAN, however, hit it with polish if you feel the need. (this is what I did a day after picking mine up. The shop didn't meet my OCD standards once I saw it under the lighting in my garage. I did call the shop and confirm that it was ok first.)
You can also find some detail sprays that are silicone free, and body shop safe to use in place of waxing to hold you over for the 30 days. One good one is WIZARDS mist and shine.

I’ll probably just wait 30 days and do a 3 layer polish/wax on it.

Ugh so the shop (along with 3 others I went to) are all now saying they will repair the bumper. It’s got a minor dent with some major scuffing. They said they would heat up the bumper till it gets back to normal shape then sand down and paint the effected area. And then spray the entire bumper with clear coat. This sounds super sketch. But they all promised it would look normal again. Anyone else had an area repaired where it looked back to normal?

If the guarantee it and it’s conditional upon your inspection it may cost you less in the end. I would get the warranty in writing.

sounded like it's your insurance company not willing to pay for a new bumper and full paint.

a good paint shop should be able to match the paint well... unless you have the 3 stage paint like the PW which is a bit harder to match.

it seems like they are confident the repair can easily be made, if 3 different places are suggesting it. don't make it out to be a bigger deal than it is, it's pretty simple. Let them do it... If your not satisfied (which is unlikely, MOST of these guys are professionals, and know what they are doing) make them aware, and contact your insurance. they will send an adjuster out to examine the repair, and help you resolve it... We once had a repair done by a shop that was recommended to us (we were new to the area) and they did a lackluster job on the clear (bugs in it, hair, ect) we had the adjuster look at it, and the shop had to re-paint it. after the second go around, still no bueno. we had them do it a third time, and they finally got it right.
Realize that this was not a normal occurrence. My point is, your insurance co will stand behind you to get a reasonable repair done.
OR, do what I would do, and take the insurance check, and add the difference between repairing the cover, and replacing it, which shouldn't be all that much.

This was my mother-in-laws rear bumper before and after hitting a fire hydrant...the shop that FIXED it was amazing!!!

Ok I feel a lot better after reading the comments. Thanks. They said if I was unhappy they would make it right. Also they said they would remove some double sided tape I had from removing the spoiler.
