Cool My QD / Spray Wax Favorites

Thanks to all of those that looked at my other wax thread - My Wax, Sealant, and AOI recommendations

Now on to the sprays. I love me some spray wax and quick detailers (QD). At one time I was a QD addict and had 20+ different types on hand. During that time, I also made my own spray wax, and it came out great! Thing is, by the time I bought the ingredients and put in the time, I could easily buy 2 gallons of something good. So I gave up on that and set out to find a decent QD and spray wax and stick with it. Along the way, I found these products to recommend:

Category 1: QD’s and Spray Waxes for Shine & Protection
Poorboy’s QD+
Finish Kare FK425
Meguiar's Synthetic X-Press Spray Wax D156
Duragloss Aquawax
Chemical Guys V7

Category 2: QD’s for Shine with light cleaning ability
Adams Detailer
Griot’s Garage Speed Shine
Poorboy’s Spray & Gloss

Category 3: QD’s for general cleaning, polish removal, quick light baths to small areas.
Chemical Guys Speed Wipe
Finish Kare FK146
Poorboy’s Spray & Wipe

So that’s a LOT of good choices! What to do? If you just want to “stock” one QD, pick something from Category 2 and you’re set. These will do it all.

If you want a dedicated beauty-enhancer, and a dedicated cleaner, then pick from Category 1 and 3.

I buy Meguiars Xpress Synthetic Spray Wax and Poorboy’s Spray and Wipe by the gallon. The Megs D156 spray is SO easy to use, is never fussy, and is economical. Your car will have a just-waxed shine. I use Poorboy’s Spray & Wipe for cleaning, polish removal, spit shine, bird poo, occasional waterless wash, fingerprints, clay lube, etc.

Many QD's are alike, but what sets them apart is how they clean (or not) and what they leave behind (or not) in the terms of shine and protection.

Thanks for another detailing write up!

I first got into QD's with griots speed shine, which did a very good job but got a bit expensive as i also became a QD addict

I also tried to make my own QD but that didnt workout as planned

I finally settled with ultima waterless wash +concentrate, which is absolutely awesome and comes out really cheap in the long run

Edit: i also like meguiars ultimate quick wax after washing the car

Good info! I carry a bottle of GG's Speed Shine for the random bird crap and stuff that happens. Works great!

Great idea. Everyone should but a small bottle of detailer and a good microfiber rag in the glove box. Bird poo will etch paint, especially certain species. Get it off ASAP!

How does Meguiar's Synthetic X-Press Spray Wax D156 compare to their Ultimate Quick Wax?

I love V07. It's almost a multi-purpose cleaner for me. Beside its intended purposes as a quick paint sealer, I use it to remove bugs (on paint, glass, clear bra, chrome, and bare plastic), to coat glass replacing RainX, to enhance shine on bare and textured plastic (no white residue), to remove left over white residue from wax, and to remove bird dropping.

It compares favorably - because it's the same thing! Although I don't think Mequiar's says officially that they are the same, the general concensus is that they are. The gallon jug of D156 will end up costing a lot less, but Ultimate Quick Wax is a great pick-up if you're at Walmart or similar.

In fact, all of the consumer Mequiar's "Ultimate" products are great, especially Ultimate Compound.

Hello Again! Been a while, but I'm back to add a few QD's/Spray Waxes to the list!

Category 1: QD’s and Spray Waxes for Shine & Protection
See my original post, and let's add:
Dr. Beasley's QD. Not that expensive for a top-shelf QD. It behaves and looks amazing!
Polish Angel Presto Expensive, but good baby Jesus this stuff is awesome. It's thick with carnauba, yet it's easy to use - just melts into the paint.

Category 2: QD’s for Shine with light cleaning ability
nothing to add

Category 3: QD’s for general cleaning, polish removal, quick light baths to small areas.
3D Final Touch Detailer. Not expensive, and a great clay lube and all-'round work spray. Provides a bit of gloss.

Recently Not impressed: 303 QD, Sonus Carnauba Spritz, Pinnacle Crystal Mist (not worth the money), Griots Spray Wax

Love me some Adams Detail Spray. Current stock is pumpkin scent and regular. The regular smells so good I bought some of their Detail Spray scented air fresheners lol

Oh and it works great too. My process; 4 Star Paint Sealer, 2 coats Adams Buttery Wax, then detail spray for touch-ups as needed. Could get lost in that finish.

I've heard great things about 4-Star sealant, that it looks like carnauba but lasts like a sealant. Adams Buttery is beautiful looking and SO easy, but just doesn't last long - maybe three weeks.

Oh, and yes, Adams Detail Spray is top notch.
