Scratched and Scuffed up the top of my Front Bumper
So the other day when parking in my work's parking ramp, I scratched up my front bumper. The ramp doesn't have walls around the edges, but instead has metal cables to keep you from driving off the edge. Long story short, I pulled in too far and lightly "bounced" against the cables. It was enough to scratch up the front bumper. It left some scratches below the front emblem, and even more below the big opening.
It just happened Friday morning, so I haven't had a chance to take it in for a quote. I'm just wondering if it's fixable, or if I'll need to have the whole bumper repainted. I know prices are going to vary wherever I take it, but can anyone give me a ballpark estimate as to what it would cost to fix (or repaint the bumper entirely)? I snapped some pics with my cell phone, but they're not the best quality. To Paint an entire front bumper could go anywhere from 500-700 depending on how much prep work is needed. It doesn't seem like the scratches are deep into the paint you can try buffing it out first or take it into a detailing place and let them have a go at it.

It doesn't look as if it's through the clear coat. The general rule of thumb is if it catches your fingernail it's most likely gone through, in which case it will need to be repainted. If not, they will buff out. You can either take it to a reputable detail shop or buy a DA polisher and do it yourself.

I think most can be buffed out and a little bit of touch up pain for anything else. Unless your car is a trailer queen the front bumper will get minor chips and scratches just form driving. I wouldn't worry about repainting unless it gets hit bad.

Thanks for all the input everyone! I'll have to look for a reputable detailing place in the area when I get a chance.

Have you considered doing it yourself? For the price it costs to get your whole car's paint corrected you could buy the stuff.

To the OP, if your fingernail catches in the scratches, you will most likely need it repainted as others have mentioned. With that said, the FIRST place I would go if I were you is to an extremely good detail shop who can either guarantee the repair or tell you to take it to a paint shop. That way, you will have someone on the scene who can give you a better answer. Looking at some questionable pictures on a forum is not going to get you a definite answer like a true professional detailer can. Now if it can be fixed, I show how I fix scratched up paint in this video, if the scratches cannot be simply buffed out. I would NOT advise you to try this as it takes experience. I make it look a lot more simple than it actually is. |
Can easily buff this out! contact Stay Fresh Car Care / Premium Car Care Supplies and they will help you. :)
