Fix rock chips
 

Anyone had any experiance with products to fix rock chips? what product do you suggest?

Dr Colorchip... just used it last weekend. It's more work than touchup paint, but definitely worth it.

Dr. Colorchip ftw. Used it on my 40th, perfect paint match.

ive been looking at reviews on youtube and that looks like what i will go with.

Make sure you clean it really well before hand. I had a couple of bigger spots that had actually gotten through to the metal, so I cleaned them up with a duplicolor paint pen (have one for my other vehicle and they have a really useful abrasive tip) then I put on POR15 with a toothpick to prime and seal the metal, and then did Dr Colorchip over that once it cured.

Another vote for Dr. Colorchip followed by a little polisher love.

Which POR15 product do you use? I have a couple chips that are deep.

Got my first 2 chips after 15 months. I have ordered Dr Colorchip sitting here and waiting for the weather to get better before using. I read many good reports about Dr ColorChip and that's the reason why I purchased it. BTW after the chips are repaired I'm having the full hood covered with Expel.

I had plenty on hand because I just sealed the frame of my jeep.

Dr colorchip works, but do not expect it to look anywhere near perfect. If you have OCD it will not satisfy your need to look at every angle and see smooth paint. Its great for inconspicuous spots. The trick is figuring out the right amount of pressure to use with the wipe down to not take too much or too little paint with this step.

My car has <1000 miles and already has a couple of chips, one or two on the bumper and one on the hood. It happens.

I have a Dr Colorchip on the way as well as a couple of touch up pens to try out. Most of the lacquer stuff you buy (like the Duplicolor) can be removed safely with a cotton ball damped with rubbing alcohol - and if you get a big blob on there when you are doing your repair, you can use that same cotton ball to level it out without worrying about sandpaper. Then let it harden up again and use a little fine compound to blend it in.

You never get an invisible repair without the $300 respray but probably if you took your car to the shop every time you got a rock chip you'd never be driving it. Fix them the best you can and when you get a bunch of them, have the hood/bumper/fenders resprayed or whatever.

I have not used Dr Colorchip yet but I've heard you get good results.

I have used traditonal touch-up paint like Duplicolor many times with decent results - as in, it stands out less than the grey primer spot did, and it will prevent rust - but if you have a metallic or pearl color it rarely matches well enough to get even close to an invisible repair.

I had a huge rock indent happen to my G last season on the hood. :icon08:

I had to PDR the hood back into shape before using nissan touchup. i allowed the paint to dry for 3wks before i wet sanded it down smooth. nearly undetectable now :woot:
