What Kinda Oil Do You Put In Her?

Hey guys...

I'm actually sitting at the Nissan Dealership in Sauga - and the guy at the front told me I dont need synthetic oil for my Z .. that it really is a personal preference and they have some Z drivers that come in and just put in regular oil.

I've always put Synthetic ... so I told them to stick with that...

The brand they use at the dealership is Mobil1

So... question is do you guys put regular or synthetic and if it is synthetic am I better off buying a brand from Canadian Tire or stick with what they have at the dealership?

Thanks for your input.

Bobby

I only use ester oil,i was told it was the best, its more expensive but it deserved it

Chuck33079 04-23-2013 08:31 AM

I'm partial to Search 5w-30, but your results may vary.

6MT 04-23-2013 08:36 AM

I'm partial to the OP using the search function. There are over a hundred oil threads on this forum.

I think we're on the same page here.

I like to think of engines like having sex. You run it dry and hope for the best.

I just don't get chastising someone for asking and telling them to "do the search, etc." Does it make you feel superior or something?

BTW - I switched to Ester oil fro regular oil and the engine is a lot quieter. On the last change the dealer put in Mobil 1 synth instead by mistake but I don't hear the engine to be louder than before so the cost maybe is not really worth it. I don't drive it hard but change oil often enough to believe the cost is not worth it.

This is why it isn't important to you.

The chastising is not to give someone a sense of superiority. It's a matter of highlighting laziness... When someone comes on here, instead of looking to see if maybe, just maybe, someone else in the 5 years this car has now been discussed, has had a similar incident. But instead, people choose to just make a new thread about their issue and assume it will get answered like all the rest. A simple google search of "370Z Oil" will bring up at least a dozen other threads if not more on "what oil should I use?" "my car says any 5w30 will do but nissan recommends their ester oil?" "Do we really need synthetic?" etc.
It's all been answered before I promise you, and the new threads on the same topic 1000 just bog the forum down.

The search feature is there for a reason, and it does work. Else it wouldn't be there. Again, it's not chastising, its just a redirect that your issue is not singularly distinctive and not a problem that hasn't been solved.

:iagree:

So, I usually refer them to their mom to look up the answers to their questions.

Dzel 04-23-2013 02:59 PM

We have this warming geek that's pretty cool.

Dzel 04-23-2013 03:00 PM

Oh you meant the Z. I've only used ester oil and that's all I'll ever use.

Thanks for telling me what is and is not important to me.

Right. Perhaps just ignoring the post and let them find it themselves or perhaps answer them without the need to say what a sloth they are works just as well? Whatever works for you.

I dont understand the big deal of starting new threads, isnt what this forum is for???? Im sure every little thing from A to Z has been talked about for the Z on here,so i guess no one should have any need to start new ones????

IDZRVIT 04-23-2013 07:29 PM

The OP asked what kind of oil do you put it the Z. The answer for most of us was found in the OM. The only choice now is synthetic or dino and which brand. There isn't a lot of difference in brands - they all lubricate well. I don't second guess the engineers that designed this engine if left in stock form or added a few mods. If FI is used, then go with the FI manufacturer's recommendation.

Considering I quoted and highlighted your own text to use as reference, it was logical.

If you want to have 7000 threads about the same exact topic thats already been answered 6999 times before that do nothing but take up server space, slow the forum down, and muddy up any relevant threads that get lost in the pile, just pm admin and let them know you'll take over the cost of server space. Whatever works for you. :tiphat:

I am sure every one of your 49,362 posts are all relevant to the state of being of this forum.

JARblue 04-24-2013 12:23 PM

At least Chris is a premium member, which means he's donating to the help keep the forum running. And having 50K posts doesn't mean anything relevant to your argument. Many of his posts are in the premium section in existing threads devoted to off-topic conversations. There are several topics that should not need a new thread except in a very extreme/rare circumstance. These are what type of oil, gas or tires to use and oil cooler and steering lock questions. There are others, but these are the main ones. Any new thread on those topics will get flamed. Period. You can accept it and move on, or you can argue the point in each thread. Your choice :tiphat:

OP, next time try the search function first (google works great, too). I've used Mobil 1 for all but the first 3K miles of my 35K miles

Dzel 04-24-2013 12:56 PM

Not to get off topic but I usually am on the forum via Internet on my note 2 and every time I try to use the search tab it kicks me out to the top or bottom of the page not allowing me to type in the box? I do have the tapatalk 2 app but it does not log me into the forum some kind of bug and I'm hoping for an update soon they will fix it.

JARblue 04-24-2013 01:02 PM

If you're on your phone, just search in Google, Dzel. Typically, if you add 370z to your search keywords, the first page of results will be full of stuff from this forum

Dzel 04-24-2013 01:57 PM

Thanks I'll do that. Back on topic ester oil can't say it enough! Lol

SurfDog 04-24-2013 02:09 PM

I like the search function too, but you must admit getting all this real time feedback makes you feel vibrant and alive. I'm going to start a new thread about regretting my color choice and which color is best. Just think of all the passion and inspiration I will feel from from my fellow color regret-tors... In real time!

Oh by the way, I use royal purple because its purple. (though sometimes I wish it were blue)

Big_C 04-24-2013 02:40 PM

after reading this whole thread... i forgot what motor oil is!!

Actually, they are. Either for technical issues - state of knowledge, making friends - state of common ideas/hobbies, comedy - state of mind, trouble shooting - state of well being, or discussing the same topic 1000 times over - state of emergency.

lol.... didnt know this would start a war!

Anyways - I had used the search function - but still wanted to know what local people in our area used versus people in the USA .... I just figured bc of climates and the facts brands might be different from there and here - what people were using here... thats all!

So no hard feelings - lets not all bash each other :P

P.S. I saw three Z's in Sauga yesterday on the road ... too bad weather turned crappy today.... I'll check the other thread to see when the next Z meet is .... im excited about that! First time I would be going!

P.P.S. Thanks for everyone that did reply though!

Your welcome buddy:hello:

iamwagz 04-24-2013 10:15 PM

I'll reply just because.

I'm in eastern Australia, hot humid climate mostly, I find Nissan factory oil too thin. My mechanic uses HKS oil. Much better for this climate and I find it keeps temps down.
