Winter car

Winter is approaching and it's almost that time to store the Z. I have an 03 tiburon with 360km that likely isn't worth fixing anymore as a beater. Thinking of leasing an Elantra for 36mo at about 200$ a month. Question is, what other options are there I should lease for <200$/mo? Or should I look at used vehicles and if so, where?

IMHO, leasing is just renting. Kind of like home ownership. But to each their own.

:iagree: you cant find some solid beaters for pennies that'll solve your winter problems forever if you're willing to throw a little elbow grease into them

i'll look into that.

As per the leasing vs. finance, if it is just a winter car, at least i can return it after 3 years and it will be under warranty. 200 a month for 3 yrs = $7,200 and I won't really have to worry about maintenance.

I even thought about lease busters looking for one with 6 months left. Anyone have used it or know someone who has taken over a lease via lease busters?

Honestly, I love leasing depending on the rates of course. You have 36 months to test drive the car, if you don't like it give it back. If you do like it, depending on your rate you should be able to buy it for under market value at the end of your term. Sometimes it's worth it to buy it out and sell afterwards.

Purchasing is nice too, but at the end of the day if you intend on getting rid of the car your going to eat your shirt anyways.

Take a look at the new Altima..I had a 2009 that I traded in with over 80K miles. Looked great and the gas mileage was excellent as a DD. They lease out very well too...You could probably do a lease in the $200 per month range!!

take $1-3k and buy a beater. just do some research on what ever your looking at to know its potential problems you might get. personally I like older pathfinders or 4runners you get 4x4 and they tend to be soild suv's I bought a pathfinder and with repairs and original sale price was under 3k and got 3 years out of it before it just wasn't worth fixing any more so I scraped it at the end of last winter. I will be doing it all over again this year.

basically if I get the same out of the next one thats <6k for 6 years with a vehicle...........

^listen to that guy. if he can survive in Ontario winters with that plan it's solid LOL

So in the non-winter months you're just gonna pay $200 a month for a car you'll never drive?

Or are you going to drive the Z less because you have that car? That's blasphemous. :shakes head:

I found a 2010 Subaru imprezza sport hatchback for 300 a month off lease busters for 1 yr with a buy out of $14k at end of lease if I wanted to. Was gonna either drive it to work and use Z as weekend or fun car. Or let the gf drive it for weekly beejz. Either way it will get used.

Figured if I spend 3k on a car and maybe 1 or 2k annually for maintanence it may not be worth it

I habe to agree I couldn't justify another payment for something I am not even going to drive/want to be driving.

Another great example of a beater! heck if you really want a Subaru you can always get an older one, mind you they will probably start a little higher like 2-5k would get you a decent Subaru, my younger brother only drives Subarus and he has a 99 outback as a beater (paid I think $2k for it from parents neighbour) and 05 or 06WRX for sumer (I call it a project WRX though he spends more time fixing/modding it then driving it :shakes head: so basically he drives the outback! :roflpuke2:)
