Terrace - steering lock failure is happening on any of the 2009,2010 and I believe they have had a couple 2011 starting to have it. My buddy here in toronto already had his go (awx z34) he is the only one so far(as mentioned in the DIY thread by kenchen) to have taken the failed one out open it up and get everything moving inside again and working on the car. As for everyone else they have just been going to the dealership and getting it replaced for free. Or a few are buying it on there own and replacing it themselves. GL and hope everyone doesnt get stranded..........

Replacing it for free from the dealer "BEFORE" it fails?? or after being stranded?

My electronic steering lock failed 3 weeks ago. It actually happened in an underground parking lot which turned into a 2 day ordeal trying to tow it out. I drive an 09 Z which is still luckily under warranty....the part itself goes for $1100

I should probably note that I imported my Z from the US

You can get the part from a US dealer for ~$500. That's the route I'll take if mine fails outside of warranty.

My car was also imported from the US.

Nope! Happened to mine.

LMBmikeZ 03-22-2012 04:42 PM

:iagree: it has happened to other Canadian models as well.

sinceday1 - I would think the dealerships would only replace it if it has broken/failed. Wouldn't make sense for them to be replacing parts that are still working.

Also the other guys are correct you can source the steering lock from the states for around $500. No way I would pay a Canadian dealer $1100! They can go fly a kite

GaleForce 03-22-2012 05:51 PM

Yep! A kite with a cinder block for a tail.

LMBmikeZ 03-22-2012 07:37 PM

:icon18: or they can fly a metal framed one in a thunderstorm!
