cracked windshield

 I can't believe it actually happened to me! This week a rock hit my windshield and caused a 6" crack which goes to the edge of the glass. It can't be repaired and both sources told me it must be replaced.

I am just wondering if anyone else in Toronto has experienced this and if so, where did you take it. How's apple auto glass? Installed price seems high at around 700 for oem type glass and 1000ish for oem nissan glass.\

Get the Nissan glass. You won't regret it. Do you have glass coverage?

When I first got my Z there was tones of little chips in the glass from the shipping, they replaced it at the dealer (or had someone come in)

Apple Auto Glass is a chain, so your results may vary. I had a bad experience with them before. They replaced my windshield on my car (now my winter beater) and all went well. Looked good, great friendly service, quick job! The one thing I never ever thought to check was my windshield sensors. My car had a rain sensor for the wipers. One of those ones where it automatically activates the wipers when it rains. After the replacement, it wasn't working. How the heck would I know? I just left it turned on all the time and when it rained, my wipers came on automatically. So, a week later, it rains and my wipers don't come on. I'm busy and it takes me another week to get back there. They told me there was nothing they could do because in those 2 weeks, it could have failed. Unless I tell them immediate, they aren't responsible. Guess i should have poured water on my windshield to check. I didn't lose any sleep over it though as it isn't an issue to actually turn on my windshield wipers.

As with all franchise based stores, your mileage will vary.

I agree - get the Nissan glass. You have a fairly detailed dot matrix systen in the windshield and I would want to go factory for that.

I manage a glass shop in Edmonton and my price for that piece would be closer to $500. I'm not sure if it costs more out there but $1000 seems really high. There is no quality difference from Nissan OEM (which is not manufactured by Nissan) and aftermarket. The biggest difference is the dot matrix patter and black frit around the outside. It will probably be slightly different due to copyright laws but it it sometimes as small as 1/32" different. Hope that helps.
