Powder coating OEM rims / Vancouver area

***UPLOADED PICS***

Hey guys,
I'm trying to powder coat my 19" OEM rims to gold to match my pearl white Z34
My question here is, is there any powder coating place in Vancouver where they'll unmount tires and coat the rim then mount the tires back while I can leave my car there since I don't have extra set of rims to put temporarily.
or anyone wants to borrow me a set of rims to put on and just store my car in garage for about 3 days if I paid about $100? I can promise I won't be driving the car at all while waiting for the rims to be powder coated.
Let me know
Thanks,

SR Auto Group

Hey check out SR auto group.
SR Auto Group
They're local to Vancouver, good bunch of guys.

My buddy got his custom made GTR wheels through them and was going to powder coat, but decided not to.

Let us know what you end up doing.

I have a set of 350z wheels. they fit but they just dont look as good.

Was going to have SR Auto Group powder coat my stock 19s'. They'll keep it, and do the whole bit.

However, I decided to go with a set of SSR rims I spotted at their Rmd. shop instead.

i am gonna sell my stock 18's for my new 19' advan rs wheels, they weigh 20lbs each!

Do you know how much they charge for powder coating rims?
I'm interested in volk CE28Ns or TE37s but it's just too much money at the moment since I recently got this high maintenance cat and a girlfriend.. lol

Out the door was about 220 ea.. They also suggested not going with powder coating because of a possible 'orange peel' effect. They felt just having them painted in the long term was pretty much as durable and easier to repair scratches, curb rash, etc...

i think you should have wheels painted instead of powdercoat since your stock 19's is forged? i believe wheel paint is about $180 each, sanding included (must be).
IMO, for the price, you should just save up and get aftermarket wheels

I guess I made an impulsive decision today.
I was sitting in my class thinking about what color would be best for my pearl white Z34.
I ended up taking all the rims off my car and throwing it into the back of my friend's civic and then drove to this powder coating place.
I'm getting it powder coated to gold(like the sti's bbs rims).
I was gonna go for bronze or matte black, but I liked the gold sample that they had.
We'll see how gold OEM rays rim look on white Z34 next week! :tiphat:

I'm getting them back tomorrow.
I saved almost $1000 by simply taking all the rims off the car and bringing just the rims to a specialized powder coating place called "Advance Powder Coating".
I'm not sure how it's going to come out, but I've seen couple of their samples and they look very nice.
$800 included gold powder coating + 2 layers of clear coat + sand blasting.
I'll post pictures on Wednesday or Thursday as soon as I put the on my car :)

in for results!

In for results as well! I am curious to see the difference between powdercoating and painting. Did you have to take the tires off the wheels as well?

kevin.z 03-31-2010 04:10 PM

of course you have to take tires off the wheel, otherwise tires will melt in high temperatures, right?
