Almost ready to take the plunge...

Well..... did not want to announce this too soon but...

If everything falls into place in these next few days, then my time on these forums will soon be at an end.

Looks like I'm going to take the plunge and order a 2010 ZR1 'Vette. I'm ready for all the flaming that's due. Just keep it tasteful, ok? The performance numbers are what sold me and after a test drive, I could not resist. So I'm off to the dealer later this morning to see if I can swing this deal.

(sorry)

Snakes709 01-16-2010 10:38 AM

sweet, so im gussing u r getting rid of the Z since u said u wont be on the forums..lol, that sucks. Nice trade though.

theDreamer 01-16-2010 10:39 AM

2010 ZR1, wow, did not know Nissan came out with a new model. ;)
Anyways, congrats on the new upgrade (hopefully).

m4a1mustang 01-16-2010 11:40 AM

Awesome.

IDZRVIT 01-16-2010 04:49 PM

Nice choice. Hope you can make the deal!

That's going to be quite the hit on the Z and I'm sure you've read all the previous Corvette owner's here on the forum opinion and why they switched. The ZR1 is an awesome car even though its not my choice - enjoy!

Zat_Zuma 01-17-2010 12:57 PM

Sorry to see your going to the other side. But I do understand ... I think.

Keep in touch and check in once in awhile and you can see what your 370Z could have become :p

p.s. what are you going to do with your Volks?

6MT 01-18-2010 10:54 AM

Update: Went to the dealer on Saturday. No luck in negotiations. I'll see how badly they want to make this sale in the coming days. As it stands now, there is no deal and the 370 is safe.

mick 01-18-2010 10:58 AM

wow. i am surprised that you would want to get a new car after only 1 year :)

wow.
The 370z is a fast car but the zr1 is a whole lot faster

i remember i got quite dizzy after having gone on the "mission to mars" ride at disneyworld, i figure the ride on the corvette zr1 at full acceleration must be even more brutal :)

Actually, the dealership and I were about $6k apart. We'll see if they want to deal.

JP370Z 01-18-2010 08:19 PM

The Corvette is American sports car legend....The ZR1 , Wow , nice choice!

6MT 01-20-2010 09:53 AM

Well, it looks like this deal won't happen. I got a call from the dealership yesterday afternoon. The salesman seemed to think that I was not really interested because I had not called them back. I explained to him the difference of opinion on the price and told him that if they were willing to move, that we could still talk. He told me that they really had no room to move because of this car's very limited availability. I agreed, but also told him that the profit margin was great enough that they did have some room to move on price. He disagreed.

So that's where it stands. The 370 is safe. I even started the car (for the first time in two and a half months) and turned it around in the garage to begin work on a few new part install mods.

Only 3 more months of winter!! WooHoo!!

mick 01-20-2010 11:06 AM

i think the zr1 is only desirable if you are into ultra fast driving.

for its price, i would rather get one Shelby GT500 and one Corvette Grand Sport.
or
one Audi R8 (because it looks more like a supercar) :)

Our dollar is high and will probably go higher in the next few months. Maybe a trip south of the border is in order and get a very low mile 2010 used ZR1. You will probably save thousands. Warranty would be a big concern for a car like that if purchased in the US.

Well as far as I'm concerned, the deal is dead. I wouldn't buy anything out of the USA for this kind of money (especially used). The ZR1 will be a very rare car. My window for placing and confirming (very important) one of these is around the second week of February.

Really, the dealer and I are not that far apart. Just under $6k. The profit on this car "can" take this kind of a hit (IMO). But the dealer won't deal. So, I'm keeping the 370. The car is up on stands and I'll begin the further mods very soon. And come early to mid April, she should be tearing up the roads again.

:rolleyes::hello::tup::p

Snakes709 01-20-2010 08:58 PM

Well thats good and bad the deal turned out like what. What mods r u adding the the Z? Another 7 weeks until i get back in my Z....cant wait.

Install of the Stillen grounding kit, some weight savings mods, install of the new wheels, removal of the blockheater, and some engine bay clean-up (re-mount of a relay box and removal of the two air filter "covers", etc., etc..).

You know.... WIP:tiphat:

Snakes709 01-22-2010 09:19 PM

Ah, nice. I cant wait for the summer, not sure if ill have everything done but right now i have the parts at home, just needs to be install for my nitrous kit, alarm, subs/amp. I wanna get a body kit or a lip kit, get the car fully painted since i got quite abit of damage. But i need to put some stuff on hold because im thinking about popping the question to my gf.

Cant wait to see your car 6MT when u got it done.

6MT 01-23-2010 01:01 AM

Thank you. I'll post some pics after I get the wheels on. Enjoy the Olympics!

FricFrac 01-23-2010 11:30 AM

If you've got the need for speed wouldn't a twin turbo setup satisfy that urge and you can keep the quality of the Nissan interior, etc....

Snakes709 01-23-2010 06:21 PM

unless u plan on building the engine up and going all out, TT is useless...the cost is to much, for a person in canada to get the parts, labour to install and all that it will cost around $16,000....16k to hit 400~ hp....i can hit that with bolts on a nitrous for under 5k

It cost 16k (USD) here in the states also, but it will get you 400-600 on the stock engine, just depends on how well you want to play it safe.

Nitrous is like a disposable camera and FI is like a digital SLR. Nitrous is for every now and then - I want boost all the time. Besides street light racing has little intrest for me IMHO...

You can easily get a reliable 550HP from these engines TT and turn key installed for about $15K.

Sylvan Lake V 02-06-2010 04:55 PM

The ZR1 is quite a machine limited availibility wicked power it would be a great car to have. However TT the Z and you'll never look at another vette unless its in your rear view mirror.

Nice analogy  I agree I had Nitrous on another car, ended up adding a turbo not the same at all. You would use a whole bottle of N2O rowing through the gears, IMO nothing beats have the power under your foot when ever you want/need it

From what I understand, the dealerships won't even talk to you if you planned on exporting the car. I know that certain manufacturers will penalize the dealership for selling a new car to someone that is going to export it.

When I lived in Canada, they wouldn't sell me a new Dodge even though I was legally living there and could do all the transfer paperwork myself.

IDZRVIT 02-07-2010 08:38 AM

I said a low mile car i.e. used. Therefore, no problem getting it back to Canada unless it's listed as not being importable into Canada by Canada Customs. However, I doubt the 'vette is on the list. Warranty could be an issue though.

yea TT setp up is nice but like i said, i just find it pointless unless u build the engine up and go higher...to me $16k for a TT that gives the same amount of power as bolts ons and nitrous for $3000. If i was going to get TT i would build the engine up and go for 700-800whp

370zdub 03-03-2010 11:46 AM

6MT My uncle just picked up his ZR1 two days ago and we went and took it out for a spin yesterday. Incredible piece of machinery, It is an absolute riot and I must say, for a vette everything was pieced together very nicely. I can help but drool all over the brakes too. I say go for it! If you can pull it off I see no reason not to own one!

370zdub 03-03-2010 11:50 AM

wow, I just reread the whole thread and not the first page to realize this was dead. My bad.
