Alcon BBK review

I have yet to see a independent review on this system so I just wanted to post up about my great experience with Sharif @ Forged Performance and with Alcon.

Communication: 10/10 Sharif was more than helpful throughout this entire process, answering any questions I had, as well as updating me with tracking info while he was at SEMA.

Packaging: 10/10 The brakes arrived in four separate boxes, and were packaged perfectly. They definitely take their time and make sure that the possibilities of damage during shipping are slim to none. Besides the obvious, the kit also came with SS lines, and Motul RPF600 brake fluid

Performance: 10/10 I have had the privilege of driving my fair share of performance/super cars so I feel like I have a pretty good idea of what good brakes feel like, and these definitely feel like GOOD brakes. I have only put about 65-70 miles on the car but I did take one of my favorite canyon roads home and these things BITE! What's most impressive, is I am on their mild pad set-up to keep noise to a minimum (I haven't heard any) I cannot imagine what these things will really do once I break them in a little more and get to really lay into them. I really don't think I could even outdrive these pads unless I went to big willow or another heavy braking track.

Fit & finish/looks: 10/10 Obviously my main concern was performance, however id be lying if I said looks didn't play a small role in the upgrade. My god do these things look sexy. The standard finish on the caliper, the signature Alcon rotor, etc.

Once again, a huge thank you to Forged Performance for helping get the brakes my Z deserves! I will definitely be adding more to this as I have some better pictures, and more canyon/track time on these but so far I cant think of one bad thing to say.

How about noise and dust?

carlitos_370z 12-08-2014 01:21 PM

love it bro!!! nice upgrade... and i think is one of your best upgrades that you can do to your Z cause you have a 500+whp and you need something good to stop those horses

Zero noise so far, and I don't have enough miles on them to get a good idea on how much dust they make. I will definitely report back once I get more miles on the car.

Interested to see how they hold up in the long run, they look great though

These are some of the best brakes money can buy IMO, I am sure they will hold up to the test of time.

I had Alcons brakes on my Audi B6 S4 and really though they were great and so much better than stock. I had RBF600 fluid used with them and the Carbotech XP8 pads all around. I had both front and rear. Front was 6 piston with 355 discs and rear was discs and pads. Also has SS lines put in. After that the piggy S4 really stopped quite well and the brakes never faded or overheated. But you must follow their bedding procedures to the letter. Key point is not to stop with brakes applied after the initial bedding,

So clean!! Props.

I would whore myself for those brakes, any takers?

TerribleONE 12-16-2014 09:01 PM

Thanks guys. Should be getting the car on the track after the new year. Will definitely post my impressions. Big willow should put these bad boys to the test!

What? How do you stop without having applied the brakes? Please clarify.

He means come to a complete stop and is referring to the bedding procedure. This process is specifically designed to heat up the brakes and transfer an even layer of fresh pad material to the surface of the rotor. If you come to a full stop during this process, the hot pads are going to deposit a bunch of pad material in one spot causing the pad layer on the rotor to be uneven. This result is commonly referred to as "warped rotors" (because the rotors themselves very rarely actually warp), but the bedding process will exacerbate this effect because your brakes will be extremely hot and deposit a lot of pad material.

So when you do your 60mph braking runs you want to make sure that you brake hard until no less than 5 mph, and then you let off the brakes so they can cool down before another run.

Exactly, in MD I have a nice long road.....no entrances to it, where I would do the procedure. Do hard braking from various speeds and on the last application I would just keep driving and let the brakes cool off. If you do it right, you can see where the pad material has been deposited onto the rotor and it will not be a shiny steel look. More of a dull gray. But every now and then you have to re-bed the rotors and pads if you don't actually go to the track and do mostly street driving. The pad material will build up on the rotors and cause what may seem to be a warped rotor when its just uneeven pad deposit. Alcons are race brake systems, thats why they cost so much. Also note that the XP-8 pad does not have much initial bite when its cold. You need to heat them up a bit. So when you track them don't go balls out till you do a lap or two to get the heat in them. The B6 S4 was/is a heavy pig.....and I never once had the Alcons fade or overheat. The stock brakes on it easily would fade on a twisty mountain road.
