Outrageous install rates

been wanting to do a Sprint spring upgrade, so i decided to start checking around Portland tuner shops for installation pricing. Holy ****! Most want 4 hours for the springs, 2 hours for camber arms, at anywhere in between $100-125 an hour rate. Are you kidding me? And that doesn't include alignment cost. $700-800 for the job, guess i better keep looking around for more affordable shops. Factor in $500 for the parts, that $1200-1300 dollars total:crying:

LMAO, that's a joke

I don't know anyone in Oregon, but try your local thread or FB group

Sounds like the first shop I called to install my CBE. "$300 because the last one we did (on a mitsu eclipse) didn't line up so we are going to plan 3 hours for your install."
:rofl2: :rofl2: :rofl2:
DE suggestion of hitting up the local thread =

local shop charged me 100 bucks to put on my full ARK DTS, and I even got to help.

1. The hours sound right, but labor rate is very high.
2. Forget springs, and get some KW's.

Even in NYC the rate is $100/hr max. But for doing basic things like springs they shouldn't have their top guy on it and the rate should be less.

Where did you call to get quotes? Those prices are crazy.. I know a couple good shops in the area

I would have expected that from PSI but I would have thought the guys at Forged would be better. I know another place, I'll PM you back

aszyd 06-24-2014 11:12 PM

I know this won't be helpful, but I have found that I would rather spend the money on tools, than labor rates. Sure, I am not accounting for my time when I am installing the parts, but I can call it a hobby, right?

kenchan 06-25-2014 10:39 AM

yah, if you have the means to do the work yourself, get the tools you need.
chances are you will work on other cars and future cars... and be able to fix anything later too.

and do your local buddies cars for like $50 each, and make some of the money back.
