Sport Caliper color - Chrome? Yeah/Ney?

Finally finished my stereo install over the weekend laying down the dynomat extreme and dynaliner in the hatch area to quiet down road noise, did make a marked improvement and am quite happy with the way it all came out.

Next week should get the Nismo front bumper and skirts back from the body shop to install those, in the meantime also want to paint my sport calipers.

Alsa sells a chrome paint process that looks amazing in my opinion, I was going to go red but want something different and I really have no other red on the exterior of the car which is MB, rims are AG M310's (Hyper Silver) with drilled/slotted rotors, if I go thru with this will get the Akebono stickers in black. Here's one picture I found close to what I want...

No no no. Cars with chrome calipers can be found inside tiny plastic packages also called matchbox cars, or in the puerto rican neighborhoods

Enjoy keeping them clean. IMO I am at the point where I just want to powder coat my oem ones black because they get so much brake dust.

it's up to you op, but that is not my style..

Still considering a candy red over a gold or silver base. Coilovers are fortunes 500 which have the green to them. But didn't want the underneath of the car to look like a christmas tree... Not that I would hope many would see the underneath...

To each their own, but my answer to such things is always no, when the question starts out, "Should I do chrome on...."

For an MB, any dark grey or black would look cool; or even color match the MB.

Unless you're a rap star. Then chrome the calipers....

The whole point of painting them is to have them stand out in contrast to the wheel -- thus, chrome would defeat that purpose if your wheels are silver.

For contrast, red, blue, whatever, will look better.

Also, personally, not really a fan of the chrome look overall, if your wheels are, say, something other than silver or a variation thereof.

Alternatively, if you just want them to look tasteful and not stand out so much, but rather blend in better, I say just paint them black.

Hey now, no making fun of our brothers from PR.

OP - nah. Chrome is like virus. Once you do your calipers, it'll spread to your engine bay.

BuckeyeZ 05-27-2014 06:39 PM

I would be concerned about them discoloring if you got any heat in the brakes.....but if you don't drive hard, maybe that is not an issue for you.

Mike 05-27-2014 09:09 PM

go with candy red

Hotrodz 05-27-2014 09:36 PM

Even old black dudes don't chrome unless you are Rick James or Huggy Bear. If you a pimp then be a pimp, red or brembo gold!

OldFart 05-27-2014 09:59 PM

Sorry, but old habits die hard... :)
