How long before you got new brake pads?
I am finally getting mine replaced for the first time at 71k miles. My rear's didn't quite need it yet but I just decided to do both right now. I wonder if that is quite a bit higher than most. I like to engine break a lot so I actually don't use my breaks very much except when I have tracked my Z and I have only done that twice. Was curious how many miles it was for some other people before they replaced the pads?

I think the stock pads just last forever. Don't know of any car that has pads that live that long. And I only DD on the stock pads, but I have been known to DD like an ASSSHOLE. So when I changed them at 35k miles, they had more than half their life left.

whoa 71k. Im at 18k and already have some EBC Red Stuff on stand by.
im eager to hear what kind of distance others got on oem pads too, I have heard oem pads lasting 40k+ was normal for dd use. |
5yrs still stock pads and rotors. might bleed it for the first time this summer as needed. brakes still feel solid. 14k miles.

Just about to hit 40K miles on my '09 7AT and will be changing them out this weekend. Rears seem to be closest to running out. I engine brake from time to time but would rather the wear items like the brakes take the brunt of it.

43k and stock everything still
|
i recently replaced my stock pads out when i hit 70k....
|
Good to know I won't need new ones for a while. Is there an expiry date on the pads?
|
I'm a little over 60K and mine still have plenty of life left. I use gearing to slow down and brake only when necessary. They still have plenty of bite as well, lol.
|
Currently at 40k on my 2015 base, going to change the fronts out this weekend.
I will see how much life was left. |
I've had issues with the rotors at ~15K and again at ~36K. The car vibrated during high speed braking. At 15K I had the stock rotors resurfaced and pads replaced. It was fine for a while then at 36K the problem came back, so I purchased new rotors but left the same pads installed. She's good once again.

just replaced the rear brakes on a g37s auto at 99k miles. original oem sport brake pads and it is a DD. the front still looks good, probably 30% left.

Pad life is all dependent on the driving. I replaced my oem pads (nismo option) ones at 20k only to find out they still had ~40-50% material left. On the other hand after ~500 miles on the track there was nothing left of my track pads but bare metal. Just change them when you hear the squealing sound from them.
|
Switched out the front OEM brake pads last weekend, still had over 50% life on them with 40k miles on the Z.

I had the same problem, vibrating steering wheel when braking. I’m getting stop tech rotors and pads. My Z has 29k miles. |
vibrating steering wheel = improper bedding or warped rotor
if the pads/rotors are relatively new and you're getting that, its probably improper bedding |
Think it was about 5k miles when I changed mine. They's still sitting on the shelf in a box looking practically new. :stirthepot:

I would have to agree the Nissan OEM brake pads will last a long time a specially if you are conservative with the brake petal. Only time I really see the Nissan OEM brake pads being replaced early is if you are very hard on your brakes, have problems with your rotors or calipers, and if your brake pads don’t bed in properly. On my last 370Z I replaced the front and rear brake pads at 58k miles and there was not much life left on the brake pads.

20k miles and 5 years. After three track days now I feel like the brakes are starting to fade. It's the time to change the pads but i'll wait.
|
2009 with 65K still stopping strong, a very slight shudder when stopping at red lights at normal speed, but not enough to justify changing the pads/rotors. Original everything so mine have lasted what, 9 years? Damn.
|
Finally was able to take out of storage yesterday and realized the car is 8 years old already. Still has original brakes (pads and rotors) with almost 29,000 miles. No shudder or other signs that they need to be replaced...

My car is a 2011 with sport package at 43k and still has oem pads and rotors. How does everyone check how much brake pad is left over without taking the calipers off? With my other DD Honda I can just take out the wheel and look at the side of the brakes where as the sport brakes it's not visible to see the pads

Like 500 miles. Two track weekends and my front brakes were gone. You can get them to last a 100k miles or less then 1k its all in how you use them.

Just did mine at 59k this past weekend. Wasnt having any issues, I was just bored, and firgured they gotta be getting down there. I had the new pads in the cabinet for 2 years now waiting.......... I was shocked by 2 things.. #1 There was better than 50% of pad remaining #2 Easiest brake pads to change ever.
|
just did the fronts at 33.5k. i was surprised since i don't track and i'm not a crazy driver. maybe the first owner who had the car for less than 5k miles rode the brakes or had a few hard stops. or the dealer. i guess i could have waited a bit longer but it's the only repair i've had since i've owned it for over 4 years.
