2013 Nismo front brakes...
If this is not the appropriate area please move...
I was speaking with a friend about going to a track day in the future with my 2013 Nismo. He had mentioned that three of his friends had 2013 Nismo's that went into the wall towards the end of a track day due to front break failure and I was told to proceed with caution. I have had Z's, but new to the Nismo. I wanted to know if anyone else has also heard/had this problem. I don't want to take it to the track or the mountains and worry about having break failure. They were all guys who race and have experience with cars as well. Not newbies to track days. Love to hear some feedback. Thanks! :tiphat: |
The Nismo has the same brakes as the sport package, the pads and brake fluid are not really track ready off the showroom floor. If you are planning to track, replacing the pads with something track ready, and getting some high-temp brake fluid should greatly reduce the chance of sudden brake fade.
On the street/mountain roads you should be fine though, ive really abused my brakes on backroads and the problem i ran into was warped rotors, never had fade. |

Appropriate pads. Good fluid. Ti shims. Brake cooling ducts. Problem solved.
Have separate track pads and street pads. They're easy to swap out. |
Cooling ducts should be on the 13/14 nismo. Z1 motorsports sells a brake & fluid upgrade kit.... Check it out.
|
Also, pretty sure we would have heard if three 2013 NISMOs had been put into walls @ track days.
Sounds like someone read that stupid Car & Driver article from 2009 and made up their own version. :shakes head: |

I think the '13 Nismos have SS lines already, so other than pads with better bite and maybe Dot 4 fluid, you should be okay.

You'll just need to re-bed the street pads afterwards. |

Probably not true though. |
First time tracking the car. Start slow and work your way up. Good pads, and Motul brake fluid. Then Ti heat pads, cooling ducts, 2 piece rotors. Only do what you can afford, and your skill level. ;)

Thanks for the advice. It was from my coworker who is my IT guy and races himself. Apparently happened at a track day in Palm Beach. I was just asking if anyone had heard of this. I found it a little strange that three did too. SO I was just looking to see if y'all had heard of anything similar or of any breaking issues. Whether or not my information was embellished by the person who told me doesn't matter. I just wanted to make sure to be safe. I figured before I take her to the track I plan on making a few tweaks to prepare her anyways. Thanks.

ZLady, I'd upgrade the pads for a track day, but besides that, kick āss out there! Brakes ducts should probably be next in terms of mods, then fluid. (Maybe do fluid and lines at the same time) |

Are the high rigidity hoses just less flexible rubber then?
|
carbotech xp8's all around, rbf600 for both clutch and brake fluid, and you should be good to go.
SS lines you can definitely do at the same time as the brake fluid flush, but its not 100% necessary. brake ducts are nice too, but i honestly doubt you'd hit any brake fade with the above mods as a beginner. i know i dont. |

Sounds like they are just as good and OEM to boot  |

Some oil/fuel SS lines though are soft rubber with a SS outer. Don't think anyone uses that on brakes though. |
Thought the Nismo came with a higher temp fluid from Nissan?

I call BS...I mean 3 of his friends have (had) 13 Nismos? That's gotta be what 30% of all 13 Nismos right there!

Just want to ask you guys.. what are the best SS lines for our cars... in my STi i have the Goodrige and works great with Ferrodo Pads and Motul Fluid.
|
If you are a first time tracker, you would probably be ok totally stock, as you won't be driving anywhere near the limits that would cause problems, but you still should swap fluid and upgrade pads.
As an experienced driver, in my first track day with the car, on hawk HP+ pads and Valvoline synthetic fluid, I wore the pads to the backing plate and boiled the fluid in my first 20 minute session. When the brakes do go, they give very little warning. They felt a little soft in one corner, so I backed off and coasted the rest of the track, and it still took me over 50 feet to stop from 10mph when I got in the pits. |
