Time for New Pads?

Hey Guys,

Check out the video below. The car has around 35k on it and the brake pads (front/rear) have never been replaced to my knowledge (I'm the second owner). Anyways, a week ago, I started hearing a noise that would occur as long as the car was rolling whether it was in gear or in neutral.

Could it be time for new pads? The car still stops fine and there are no brake light wear indicators lit up on the instrumental cluster. Thanks guys.

It sure sounds like something is scraping metal-to-metal but hard to tell from the audio. If you don't have the resources to check the pads and rotor yourself, go to a reliable brake shop and get them to check everything out. From the sound of it, you will probably need to turn the rotor and possibly replace the pads. While you have it in the brake shop, have them do a thorough inspection of the front brakes.

At 35000 miles, I would turn or replace both rear rotors and and replace both sets of pads. YMMV

It could be the parking brake.

I had some free time today so I jacked up the car and took of the wheel. The sound was just the dust shield scrapping against the rotor. I bent it back and all is well now. The rotor is worn down in the area where the shield was rubbing against it but I will be doing brake pads and rotors all around in a month or two. Thanks.

Here are some pictures in case this ever happens to anyone else. A new short block was installed in my car two weeks ago and I guess this happened when my mechanic put everything back together.

Your dust shields look different. Was this on a base with upgraded brakes?

No. It is touring model with the sport package and pretty much every option including the upgraded brakes.

I know that the dealer took off the wheels and everything to pull the motor when they installed the new short block. Is it possible that the tech used a different shield? Does it make a difference?
